The 3rd Annual Tucson Conquistadores Baseball Classic will be held on 3/15 -3/19, 2010 and will be a good mix of perennial 4A (CDO, Catalina Foothills, Nogales) and 5A Southern AZ (Salpointe, Ironwood Ridge, Sunnyside)powers with teams from OK, CA and CO visiting the Old Pueblo.  The Falcons of Catalina Foothills won it all last year and will be the defending champs!

My "DREAM" game of the week if it will happen will be a Championship match-up between the DORADOS of Canyon Del Oro and the LANCERS of Salpointe Catholic. Both these teams has been playing well as of late but as we all know in baseball anyone can beat any other team on any given day. CDO will square off against Sunnyside Blue Devils and Salpointe will face a tough Fort Collins team in their openers. Wink

Whatever happens Top 2 teams will play for the Gold 7PM at Kino Sports Complex South #5 3/19/2010

Battle for 3rd place will be at 430PM at Kino Sports Complex South # 6 3/19/10.

Have a great week and see you around the DIAMOND!

I also would like to add that the Yucaipa Thunderbirds from California(27-3)currently ranked #75 team in the pre-season rankings by Perfect Game will be among the teams coming.

By the way Sunnyside is playing last 4 games, you will give CDO a run for their money if they take you guys lightly. Good Luck! Probably should pitch Julio Felix. Smiley

Mr. Baseball4life, please keep us updated of all the games you play and your own observations in the tourney.

I have had a chance to catch 3-4 games in this tournament. There are some nice teams involved and good competition. I do not think there is caliber of overall talent that Horizon tournament presents year in - year out, but definitely very well run and quality Tucson tournament.

I'm curious what tournaments people feel are this years strongest. Maybe someone could post a new thread asking this question. I believe some of the PHX. tourneys are next week?

Sunnyside vs CDO

Please don’t let the score fool you
This was a very well played game on both sides it really came down to timely hitting
We would get people on and leave them they got them on and drove them in…
CDO is a great program with above average hitting and pitching saying that
We played them well made no errors hats off to there pitcher here is the box score

Canyon del Oro
1   2   0   0   1   4   -   8   12   0
Sunnyside
0   0   0   0   0   0   0   0   4   0

I watched a couple of CA. teams that were very talented and well coached. I did not see it for myself, but I understand one pitcher was hitting mid 90's earlier in the week. Can anyone confirm this?

Given the game slots available and number of teams this is a great tournament. Very well run at top notch, quality facility. The format gathers the best and most talented teams at the top . You look through the top 8-10 teams and see that they are all good teams. Most capable of beating each other at any given time.

Great job to Sal Pointe group for all the hard work.

Mr. Eckardj,

The Player in question is from the  Yucaipa team . I am not sure but only 2 names come to  my mind either  Senior RHP Pedro Cota or  senior 3B/RHP Taijuan Walker .

The other player that was radared consistently  in the low 90's max 93mph is Salpointe Senior Dan Slania.

TOP 4 teams who were 3-0 in tournament.

3/18/10
Field  5  4:30 pm  CDO vs Catalina Foothills
Field  5  7 pm  Yucaipa vs Burbank

Please update us of the games...

Yes, It was Walker. I saw him play 3rd tonight and I'm guessing he will throw tomorrow against CDO.
Yucaipa beat Burbank 6-4. Both teams looked to be filled with quality talent.

CDO vs Yucaipa,CA  for the championship @ 7PM at Kino Sports Complex South #5 3/19/2010

Catalina Foothills vs Burbank,CA for 3rd place @ 430PM at Kino Sports Complex South # 6 3/19/10.

I think the tournament was a success especially with the inclusion of the Jack Howell Classic for the Junior College part of it.  Definitely the best 2 teams for the Gold!

It was an Arizona vs California event for 3rd and 1st place.

CDO won vs Yucaipa 11-3 and remained unbeaten for the season and has won its 2nd consecutive tournament. Mr. Eckardj and Bnettling can possibly fill us in on the story. PROPS to DORADOS for a job well done..Good Luck for rest of season and possibly a repeat.

Catalina Foothills beat Burbank,CA 3-1 with Preston Jamison on the mound and took 3rd place.

Salpointe 10 run ruled Verdigris,OK  10-0 prior to the championship match.

This is the summary of the Tournament including the Battle for 3rd place and Championship game.

There are a bunch of under the radar players in the story I think.

The Tucson Conquistadores and Sal Pointe ran a top notch quality tournament. I agree Ryanrod the JC schools complimented the assortment of HS teams for the week. It was great to see both final games have Tucson teams emerge victorious.

The Yucaipa program was filled with quality talent. Both sides conducted themselves in professional respectful manner....."Including the parents". That is always good to see.
