In 5AI state tourney action:

Gilbert overcame an early 3-0 deficit to defeat Mesa 15-5 in a six-inning run rule game. Cody Repenning gets the win, giving up six hits over five innings for the Tigers, with Tyler Kamtz finishing off in the sixth.
Lots of big flies in this game -- Braden Hamel had two with four RBIs, and one each from Tyler Kamtz, Jake Corpron, and finally DJ Peterson with the walk-off. Michael Voight, Michael Guido, and Riley Hooks each drove in runs as well.
Ryne Hemstreet had three hits for the Jackrabbits.


Mountain View's Russ Tuemmler walked with the bases loaded in the 11th inning as the Toros won a thriller from Desert Mountain, 5-4. Drama filled almost every inning as the pitching and defense was outstanding on both sides. Toros pitchers worked out of numerous jams, stranding 16 Wolves runners. Both teams threw a runner out at the plate...Skylar Helmbeck of Desert Mountain gunned Dan Forrest from left field in the 4th and right fielder Shane Urban of Mountain View thwarted Kyle Smith's sacrifice fly attempt by nailing Robert Neill at home in the 11th.

The Toros struck first with runs in the 2nd (RBI triple by Drew Hubler) and 3rd (unearned run) before the Wolves tied the game 2-2 in the 4th on two-out RBI singles by Cam Boysen and Taylor Lindsey. Desert Mountain took a 4-2 lead in the 5th on RBI singles by Lance Harper and pinch hitter Adam Sonabend before starting pitcher Coltin White (4IP, 2R, 6H) worked out of a one-out jam. The Toros tied the game in the 5th on an RBI groundout by Forrest and a swinging bunt by Blake Shumway. The relievers took over from there, with the Toros Tim Willsey pitching 5 2/3 shutout innings, scattering 6 hits, and the Wolves tough luck loser Brian Foster pitching 6 innings, giving up just the one run on 5 hits and striking out 5 in relief of Riley Welch (4 2/3 IP, 3 ER, 7 H).

Cam Boysen (3-5, RBI), Lars Liguori (3-5, R), Taylor Lindsey (2-6, RBI), Lance Harper (2-6, R, RBI) and Robert Neill (2-5) led the 15 hit Desert Mountain attack that included everything but the key hit. Drew Hubler was 3-5 including a double in the 11th inning that started the Toros final rally. Matt Shannon got the win in relief for Mountain View, pitching the top of the 11th and giving up only Neill's one-out triple.
 


Hamilton scored four runs in the first and never looked back, dropping Corona Del Sol into the loser's bracket 10-4. Sammy Vandenheuval went the distance, scattering nine hits. Corona used 4 pitchers to try to slow the Hamilton attack. Justin Rosales was 3-4 for Hamilton. Matt heml, Kyle Peterson, Tyler Kem and Jake Saylor all had 2 hit games. For Corona, Mike Felton continues to be a machine, going 3-3 at the dish.

In what was just another thriller in the accumulating list of thrillers in this year’s 5A playoffs, Mountain Pointe beat Mountain Ridge 4 to 2 in 9 innings Tuesday night.  The game quickly settled down into a pitcher’s duel between Pointe’s Jordan Madison and Ridge’s Markel Parker.  Mtn Pte scored a 1st inning run on a Derek McCawley double and added another run in the 2nd on a Ryan Klem HR.  Ridge scored a run in the 5th on a Kyle Stiner HR, and trailed 2-1 going into the bottom of the 7th.  With 2 outs, the Lions loaded the bases on 2 singles and a walk against CJ Cron, MP’s closer, when a passed ball allowed Brad Williams to score the tying run from 3rd.  Mike Reynolds was narrowly cut down at the plate on the same play for the third out of the inning when he tried to score from second base on a bad exchange between the Pride catcher and pitcher.

 

With one out, Mountain Ridge again loaded the bases in the bottom of the 8th on 2 singles and a walk.  Cody Gray stepped to the plate and scalded a line drive which Pointe’s SS, Brayden Falk, snagged and doubled off the Lion runner at 2nd base.   In the top of the 9th, the Pride scored 2 runs on a Cron RBI single and a Nick Lira Sac Fly.  In the bottom of the 9th, CJ Cron struck out the last 3 batters of the game after issuing a lead off walk to nail down the win.

 

Hitting stars for Mountain Pointe were: CJ Cron, who went 2 for 5 with 1 RBI and Ryan Klem who chipped in a HR in 4 ab’s.   For Mountain Ridge, Kyle Stiner went 2 for 4 with a HR and a double..

 

For his three innings of relief, CJ Cron got the win.  Ryan Gardner, who threw the 9th for the Mountain Lions, took the loss.


Salpointe had 3 big innings and advanced with a 17-10  win over Basha. The Lancers scored 4 times off Ryan Downs in the first, but the junior righty settled in to toss five innings of shutout ball as the Bear offense chipped away. Trailing 7-4 going into the 7th, Salpointe hung up a 5 spot to take a 2 run lead. Basha sophomore Josh Alexander donned the hero cape in the bottom half of the inning, cranking a 2 run blast that sent the game into overtime.  The teams traded runs in the 8th but Salpointe tallied 5 times in the ninth to put the game away. Jacob Llamas and Sammy Soyring each had 3 hits and a homer for the Lancers. Justin Sutherland and Eric Voak had 2 hit games for Basha.


Red Mountain came back from an 8-2 deficit to drop Desert Vista 11-9. Derek Mendoza was 3-4 with a double and 2 RBIs. Mark Jarret , Mark Hawkenson and TJ bennett all ahd multi hit games. DV got homers from Jaycob Brugman and Mitch Garrett.


Mesquite beat Highland 5-2. Mesquite's Zack Davies and Highland's Ty West both threw 6 innings of shutout ball bfore Mesquite tallied 5 times in the 7th. Highland would answer with a pair of runs ion the bottom half but it was not enough. Davies, a freshman, gave up only 2 hits over the first 6 innings. Chris Jensen picked up the save for Mesquite. Ty West was the hard luck losing pitcher for Highland. Leading hitters for Mesquite were Jared Clerk (2-2), Davies (1-2), Rocky High (1-3). Colton Zebe was (1-2) for Highland.

In 5AII action:

There will be no repeat in Class 5A Division 2. Boulder Creek scored early and often to fight off elimination 7-4 over Marcos De Niza.
Mikey Ciombor threw the complete game striking out 5 and scattering 8 hits. Ciombor was also 2-4 at the plate. Ryan Hill finished the day with 3 hits and 2 runs batted in. Ben Saunder's (3-4, 2 rbi) also contributed. The Jaguars first ever state tournament win will be celebrated for a few hours as the prepare for Sunnyside on Thursday evening at Surprise sports Complex. Brandon Hendrix had a 3 hit day as well as walking set the tone for the afternoon. The Padres Ben Dorman took the loss. Alex Moreno also threw for the visitors.


Horizon jumped out to a 7-0 1st inning lead and cruised to an 8-2 win over Sunnyside. Tommy Joseph went deep for the Huskies.


Deer Valley topped Tolleson 6-4, with Dustin Grande's 6th inning 2 run bomb proving to be the game winner. DV led 2-1 in the 5th when Kyle Herrington unloaded a big fly with a man on to put the 'hawks up 4-1. Tolleson catcher Cameron Heider would answer with a 3 run scud of his own in the top of the 6th to knot the score at 4. Kory Willis threw 5+ solid innings for DV. Chris Crasner worked the 6th and Kevin Burbank closed in the 7th.

Desert Ridge dug out from a 9-3 hole to eliminate Yuma Kofa 15-13. Alex Villar had 4 knocks for Ridge.


Sunrise Mountain took down Pinnacle 4-2 in  nine innings. Jaff Decker hit a walk off 2 run blast.


San Luis won a nail biter over Ironwood Ridge 1-0 in 9 innings.



Willow Canyon eliminated North 13-3.



Centennial defeated Ironwood Ridge 14-10.


In 4AI play, Cactus Shadows defeated Paradise Valley by the score of 12 to 9 in 8 innings. Adam Hillier picked up his 4th victory in relief. Anthony Pena had the game winning hit in the extra inning. The Falcons are now 20 and 9 on the season and are in the 4A-I State Tournament that starts Saturday, May 3rd.


4A-I Sonoran Region Championship
Down 4-0 after 3 innings of play, Catalina Foothills took advantage of some poor bunt defense by CDO and a key double by Kavon Bahramzadeh to score 5 runs in the top of the 4th and take a 5-4 lead. Then with the bases loaded in the top of the 7th, Sam Hallum hit a triple to seal the victory as Foothills won 8-4. Junior Tommy West got the victory for Cat. Foothills with help from Andy Hunter who came on in the 6th to close things out. Both teams appear to be headed to 1st round home games on Saturday when the State playoffs begin.


4A-I Kino Region Championship
Sabino led Nogales 5-2 going into the top of the 7th when Nogales scored 3 runs in the top half to tie the game. Nogales "Speedy" Espiricueta hit his 2nd 2-RBI Double to tie it. Then in the bottom of the 8th Sabino's Eric O'Brien laced a single to score David Lopez for the winning run. O'Brien is best known for winning the AZ Diamondbacks "Eric Byrnes look-a-like" contest last summer. Justin Zumwalde tripled to lead Sabino. Both teams will play in Saturday's State Playoffs, with Sabino most likely receiving the #2 seed.


4A-II Gila
Amphi turned 7 walks in the 1st 2 innings into a 9-0 lead and went on to a 16-1 mercy rule victory over Douglas in the Gila Region Title game. Amphi extended their winning streak to 16 games and should get the #2 seed in the State playoffs which begin Saturday. Amphi may play Douglas again in the 1st round.


Casey Collins threw a 3 hit shutout as Cactus finished its regular season 22-6 by defeating Millennium 6-0. The Cobras have earned the # 4 seed in the state tournament.

Catalina Foothills defeated Pueblo 12-1 in 5 innings in the 4A-I Sonoran Region semi-finals. Senior Kavon Bahrazmadeh picked up the win yielding only 2 hits. Foothills had 8 hits including key doubles by Sean Oden and Breck Ashdown, and took advantage of 4 Pueblo errors to secure the victory and a spot in Tuesday's final against CDO. Senior Aaron Melton tripled and scored Pueblo's only run. Pueblo must now sit and wait the outcome of the remaining games in hope of securing a spot in the State playoffs.


In the 4A-I Kino Region Semi-final Nogales shocked Tucson Sahuaro 12-2 in 5 innings to advance to the final against #1 Sabino. Nogales pounded out 14 hits and were led by Carlos Navarro who was 3-3 with 2 doubles. Junior lefty Juan (Speedy) Espiricueta yielded only 2 runs on 5 hits and walked none to pick up the victory. Sophomore Jacob Cole suffered the loss for Sahuaro. Both teams appear to be secure for the playoffs which begin Saturday.


In the 4A-II Gila Region semi-final, Douglas defeated Tucson Catalina 13-9 to advance to Tuesday's final against #1 seed Amphi. Douglas ace Kyle Cormier yielded 11 hits and 9 runs, but went the distance as his offense exploded for 13 runs. Douglas pounded out 13 hits and took advantage of 7 errors by Catalina. Douglas secured a spot in next week's playoffs with the win.


Prescott was defeated by Thunderbird 5-4, Max Kemp pitched a complete game for the Chiefs, with solid defense behind him, for Prescott, Cam Schiller was 4 for 4 with a solo HR.


Cactus Shadows dropped Paradise Valley 14-5 with Ismael Castro tossing 6 solid innings for the win. The Falcons got homers from Jake and Jackson Goulder and Matt Sanger in the win. PV suited up only 9 players. Pat Emmons stroke d a 3run bomb for PV.

Oliver Craig had 13 Ks in a 5 inning one hit shutout as Chaparral hammered Apache Junction 18-0. James McDonald homered in his first varsity start. Trey Ford and Jordan Weymouth also went deep. Weymouth was 3-4 with 3 RBIs and scored 4 runs.

Tim Willsey homered to start an eight-run rally in the sixth inning and capped the big inning with a two-run single as Mountain View rallied for a 10-6 win over Mesa at Mountain View High School.
Coltin White singled in two runs in the inning giving Mountain View the lead for good at 7-6. Drew Hubler added a two-run double in the inning. Willsey earned the win with an inning-plus of relief. Chris Wert and Trey Paulsen drove in two runs apiece for Mesa.
 


Desert Mountain's Brad Douthit shut down Gilbert's offense, and the Wolves broke open a close game with four runs in the fifth as Desert Mountain recorded a 7-1 win over the Tigers. Douthit pitched 6 innings, allowing just 3 hits and no earned runs while striking out eight Gilbert hitters and walking none. Riley Welch pitched a perfect seventh inning for the Wolves.

Desert Mountain started fast with back-to-back doubles by Taylor Lindsey and Colton Farnsworth to take a 1-0 lead after one inning. They increased their lead to 3-1 in the fourth on a walk to Farnsworth (1-2, BB, 2R, RBI), a single by Lars Liguori (2-3, 2R), a walk to Skylar Helmbeck, an RBI single by Lance Harper (2-2, BB) and a sacrifice fly by Douthit. Gilbert then scored their only run of the game in the fifth on a single by Michael Guido, a double by D.J. Peterson and a dropped fly ball. Douthit then shut down the rally with a strikeout and a ground ball fielders choice to preserve the two run lead.

The Wolves then stretched their lead to 7-1 in the fifth on a leadoff double by Robert Neill, a sacrifice bunt by Cam Boysen, an RBI single by Taylor Lindsey (2-4, R, RBI), another single by Lars Liguori, and a 3-run homer by Helmbeck.

The Wolves advance to play Mesa Mountain View on Tuesday while Gilbert takes on Mesa.


Tolleson overcame an early 3-0 lead to beat Boulder Creek 5-4. Austin Trujillo hit a 3 run blast to tie it up in the 4th. Both teams scored a run in the 5th and Cameron Heider"s solo blast in the bottom of the 6th put Tolleson up 5-4. Tolleson got good pitching from starter Christian Salas for 5 innings, then relievers Lester Lugo and Austin Trujillo closed out the final 2 innings. This was a very good baseball game played by both teams.
 


The Pinnacle Seniors made their final home game a memorable one. Pinnacle run-ruled Willow Canyon 11-1 in six innings. Senior Ryan Makis pitched an outstanding game striking out 12 Wildcat batters allowing only 4 hits and 1 run. Senior John Jones (2-4 6RBI 2 HR) continued his torrid pace hitting his school record 11th and 12th Homerun. The 1st Dinger was a grand slam in the 3rd inning when the Pioneers scored 7 runs taking the lead for good. Senior Bryan Karraker (2-4 2 Runs 1 HBP increased his school record of runs scored to 36 scoring the final run in the 6th. Senior Jonathon Crist reached base all 4 times scoring twice. A couple of freshman also did their part. Tyler Krause (2-3 2 BB) drove in the final game ending run. Jake Peevyhouse reached base all 4 AB with 3 walks and a base hit.

#14) Mountain Pointe 15 …(#3) Basha 4
Mountain Pointe parlayed 11 free passes (8 walks and 3 hbp’s), 11 hits, and a complete game from junior Ryan Klem to defeat host Basha 15-4 in Saturday’s first game of the 5AI State Tournament. Pointe scored 3 runs in the first and never relinquished the lead. Showing the way at the plate for the Pride was CJ Cron who went 3 for 4 with 2 HR’s, a double, and 5 RBI. Erik Klem also whacked a HR for the Pride and had 4 RBI. Meanwhile, brother Ryan Klem allowed 9 hits, 1 walk, and struck out 10 in his 7 inning win. At the plate for Basha, Mitch Zakula continued to torment the Pride going 3 for 4 with a HR, double, and all 4 of Basha’s RBI. Taking the loss on the mound for the Bears was starter Matt Powell, who had thrown 5 innings and recorded a win 3 days earlier against Corona.


Payden Yarmer homered twice as Horizon topped Centennial 7-1. Ryan Schwenn tookl a no hitter into the fifth and allwoed only 3 hits on the day.


CDO 5 Cactus 4

In a continuation of the game called due to darkness way back in early March, CDO broke a 4-4 tie in the bottom of the 11th when Senior John Bour hit a ball to deep right to score Ryan Gerber with the bases loaded to win 5-4. CDO concludes their regualr season and will now await their yet to be determined opponent in the 4A Sonoran Region Torney finals to be played on Tueday evening.


Mesquite's Chris Jensen pitched 5 innings then Casy Rana pitched the 6 inning and Zack Davies the 7. Davies got the win for the Wildcats. At the plate Austin Carr was (3-4) Jared Clark was (2-2). Mesquite had 11 total hits. Mark Hawkenson took the loss pitching a complete game. Mesquite won the game in the top of the 7. With one out Jared Clark got a base hit, followed by a Ty Forney knock.  Carr plated them both with a 2 RBI double to tie the game at 8.  With Carr at third base, Rocky High returning to action after a broken arm, hit a deep fly ball to cf to score Carr with the winning run.

Sunrise Mtn. beat North 16-0 in 5 innings. Jaff Decker hit a Grand slam. AJ Robinson and Woody Nisbit had back to back HR's. Then on the hill Kyler Hopper and Tyler Salefsky combined for a no hitter. Kyler threw 4 innings walking 3 or 4 and Salefsky shut the door in the 5th allowing no hits.


Deer Valley edged Marcos De Niza 3-2 behind Kevin Burbank. Rudy Jaramillo pitched well for Marcos in defeat. Blaine Schmidt's infield chopper drove in the winning run for DV.


Tyler Giannonatti's 3 run homer in the top of the 7th proved to be the difference as Corona outlasted Brophy 14-13. Drew Maggi homered twice for Brophy and Riccio Torrez went deep as well. KIrby Pellant aahd a 1st inning blast for Corona. Corona jumped out to a 7-0 lead before Brophy stormed back to tie things with a 7 spot in the 2nd. The lead changed hands 4 times in the slugfest.


 

Highland manufactured a pair of runs in the bottom of the 7th to beat Desert Vista 3-2. James Pazos and Ryan Box were both excellent on the bump. Highland scored the game winner on a 2 out 1st and 3rd "pickle" play in the bottom of the seventh.

Hamilton got bombs from Tyler Kem, Jake Saylor, Kyle Peterson and Matt Helm as the Huskies dropped North Canyon 11-3.


Saturday night at Millennium, the Cactus Cobras clinched the West Valley Region title by defeating Millennium 4-0. Ryan Carpenter was dominant once again. He struck out 14 and walked none giving him 104 K's, 19 walks on the season, a 9-1 record, and a 0.99 ERA. The Cobras were led offensively by Bo Cuthbertson and Mark Winiker who each had multiple hit games. Cactus is now 21-6.


Marana Mountain View upset Desert Ridge 5-1. Junior lefty Andrew Faith went the distance for the win.


Mountain Ridge defeated Salpointe 7-3. Ryan Freberg and Ryan Skube homered for Ridge. Corey Cole went the distance on the hill.


San Luis topped Yuma Kofa 13-7.

From Friday

In a continuation of Thursday's game which was called for darkness with the scored tied @8 after 8 innings, Sabino scored 2 in the top of the 9th, then Travis Jones shut down the Cougars in the bottom half as Sabino beat Sahuaro 10-8 to clinch the 4A Kino Region title. Sabino will play again on Tuesday in the Region Championship against whichever team advances to the final. The 4A Region tourneys begin Sat in Tucson.


Call it what you will. Incedible, ugly, or whatever, The O'Connor Eagles scored 11 runs in the top of the 7th to come from behind to defeat Apollo 20-18 in a wild season ending finale. Bryce Keffeler was the starting pitcher for O'Connor going 4 1/3 innings. He was relieved by Matt Broderick, Devin Ethier, Aaron Copfler and Tim Devito. With O'Connor leading by the score 7-1, Apollo put up 12 runs up in the bottom of the 5th inning. Down 16-9 going into the top of the 7th inning, O'Connor loaded the bases with no outs, and then the wheels feel off for Apollo. Travis Lane singled and O'Connor scored another run on an throwing error on the play, Nick Carrillo singled in 2 runs, Brian Carr walked, and with the tying run on base, pinch hitter Maverick Lasker hit a blast over the left center wall to give the Eagles a 18-17 lead. The Eagles wern't done yet scoring 2 more runs to up the comeback lead to 20-17. Apollo scratched a run across in the 7th off closer Tim Devito, but Devito rared back and threw a fastball to strike out the final batter to give O'Connor a 20-18 wild come from behind victory. The 7 inning game has to be close to a record taking 3 hours and 35 minutes to complete. Devito went 2-6, Zack MacPhee 2-5, Travis Lane 2-5, Nick Carrillo 3-4, Brian Carr 2-3, Lasker 1-1 with the big pinch hit homerun. Aaron Copfler got the win in relief, and Tim Devito continued his dominance as the closer for O'Connor. O'Connor finished the regular season as 10-0 in conference play, and 22-5-1 overall. Apollo pitched 6 different pitchers in the game. Mario Carrasco was the losing pitcher in relief. Bustamante went 3-5, Acosta 2-5, and Martinez 2-2 for the Hawks in the loss.

Notre Dame 13 Moon Valley 3

Jordan Luvisi belted a 3 run homer on top of a maintenance building roof and just missed hitting back to back homers with a double off the fence while driving in 4 runs.Drew Ozanne continued his hot bat with a single ,double and 2 RBI's and Casey Upperman went 2-2.Senior Brandon Hirneise started and pitched 3 strong innings striking out 5 and Jordan Luvisi closed out the game striking out 4 in 2 innings of work as Notre Dame run ruled the Rockets of Moon Valley. The Saints completed their regular season with a 26-3 overall record, a 10-0 conference record ,and an impressive 19 game winning streak to end the regular season.


Thunderbird used a grand slam and 12 unearned runs to defeat Sunnyslope 13-12. P.J. Garcia led the T-Bird offense going 2-4. Dylan Hanna's 2 run double in the top of the seventh put Slope ahead 12-11 only to see Thunderbird get two in the bottom half to end the game. Ryan Jones led Slope going 2-3 with 4 RBIs.


On Senior Day, O'Connor came back twice to defeat The Aztecs of Copper Canyon 9-8 in 8 innings. In his first start in almost 2 years, Matt Bridgewater battled back from double knee surgery to give up 3 runs in 3 innings of work. Bridgewater was relieved by Brian Carr who went 4 and 2/3 innings yielding 1 earned run, and Tim Devito going 1/3 of an inning for the win. All O'Connor Seniors played in the game. Travis Lane went 4-5, making a huge case for Region player of the year, Lane smacked a big double in the bottom of the 8th to tie the game. Then, fresh of the disabled list, pinch hitter Tyler Ermish came in to work a bases loaded walk for the winning run in the 8th inning for the Eagles. Zack MacPhee went 2-3 for the Eagles in the win. In the bottom of the 7th trailing by a run, Bryant Burnett doubled with 2 outs to send the game into the 8th inning. Copper Canyon had 5 hits in the game, Ryan Gibbs went 2-3 for the Aztecs in the loss. Rudy Gutierrez was the losing pitcher in relief for the Aztecs. The win now gives O'Connor a 21-5-1 record on the season with the finale tomorrow against region rivals Apollo.


Tucson Sahuaro and Sabino battled for the regular season title in the 4A1 Kino, but they'll need another day ti decide things after play was halted due to darkness with the score knotted at 8-8. The game will be resumed today at 4:00


Sierra Vista Buena, needing a win to advance to the state tournament, dropped a heartbreaker 11-10 to Ironwood Ridge.


Cactus Shadows defeated Shadow Mountain by a score of 5-4. The Falcons are now 18 and 9 on the season. Jackson Goulder had a complete game victory and moved is record to 6 and 2. McClintock beat Apache Junction 11-1 on Tuesday... Chris Gering led the offense for the Chargers going 4-4 with 2 doubles... Mark Anderson was 3-3 with 2 doubles and 5 rbi's and picked up the win throwing 6 innings


Sahuaro broke out the sticks cruising to a 29-2 win at Desert View. Sahuaro had 25 hits, 11 for extra bases. The Cougar attack was led by Matt Knapp 5-6 with 4 doubles and 5 RBI's. Mike Rodriguez was 4-4 with 4 RBI's and picked up the win on the hill pushing his record to 5-1. Matt Fierro was 4-4 with 2 doubles, a homerun and 4 RBI's and Jake Cole was 3-3 with a double, a homerun and 4 RBI's. The Cougars will face Sabino Thursday with the Kino Region title at stake. Both teams sit atop the region with 8-1 records.


Basha continued to roll, run ruling Corona Del Sol 13-3. Erik Voak was 3-4 with 4 RBIs and  a homer. David Miczek was 2-3 with a bomb and 4 steaks. Matt Powell worked 6 strong innings for the win.


Pinnacle struck early and hung on for a 4-2 non-region victory over Mesa Westwood.
Brian Buck struck out 6 through 4 innings of work for the win. Bryan Karraker went 3-4.
Pinnacle will play Saturday in the 5A D2 state tournament.


Gilbert defeated Mesquite 4-2. Cody Reppening and Tyler Kamtz combined for the win. Casey Rana tossed a complete game for Mesquite.


Sunrise Mountain topped Centennial 6-0 with Woody Nisbet  getting the win on the bump.

Danny Coulombe had 20 strikeouts and tossed a one hitter, allowing no earned runs as Chaparral beat Paradise Valley 9-1. Jack Diamond had a 2 RBI double and David Roney was 3 for 5 with a single, double, and a triple. Cody Yount also had 2 hits.

Mesquite beat Gilbert 7-4. Chris Jensen threw a complete game for the must win for Mesquite. Steven Harrington was (3-4) on the day along with Austin Carr and Chris Jensen. Gilbert. Kenny Hatcher was (1-2) with a
home run for Gilbert.


Junior SS Ryan Retz hit a towering home run to deep center and also doubled as CDO shutout Cholla 7-0 in 4A-I Sonoran Region play Tuesday evening. Sophomore Eric Gutierrez had 2 doubles and Senior Derek Matlock doubled as CDO had 11 hits. Senior Matt Bittles picked up the win for CDO. With one game to play, CDO and Catalina Foothills are tied atop the Sonoran Region with identical 6-1 league marks.
 


Amphi clinched the 4A-II Kino Region title last night by defeating Douglas 12-7. Amphi is 11-0 in Region play and 22-4 overall. Stanley Muller, Jesus Vega, and Ricardo Neda all went 3-4 for Amphi, as the Panthers pounded out 13 hits overall. Douglas had 14 hits themselves, but committed 3 costly errors in the loss.
 



Salpointe edged Buena 2-1 Tuesday night as both teams are now 5-1 in 5A-I league play and sit atop the Southern Region of 5A1. Dan Slania went 2-3 with an RBI for Salpointe in the win.


Catalina Foothills defeated Marana 11-1 in 5 innings last night in 4A Sonoran play. The Falcons had 12 hits and Home Runs by Seniors Cameron Blazevich, Ashton Kent, and Andy Hunter. Hunter pitched the victory as he moved to 5-1 on the year.


Westwood got a strong performance from Dan Zapata on the bump and took an 11-2 win over Mesa at Hohokam.

Desert Ridge defeated Skyline 9-3 at Skyline. Travis Flores pitched 5 solid innings. He added a double and sac fly. Jerry Kleman and Ethan Chavez came on in relief to secure the win. Steven Bier was 2-4 with a double and a grand slam. Taylor Kaczmarek was also 2-4 with a double.


After the pictures were taken and 6 seniors honored Bouder Creek offense went to work cruising to a 9-1 region victory over Barry Goldwater.
Senior Mikey Ciombor struck out 8 and scattered 4 hits while allowing 1 earned run in the outing. He also went 2-4 at the plate and finished with a.509 batting average.
In the bottom of the first Ben Saunder's ripped a ground rule double and scored on a Ryan Imming single. Saunder's made his case for an all state bid, going 2-3, on the afternoon.
The Jaguars offense continued to shine throughout the next 3 innings. Scoring 2 in the 2nd , 3 in the 3rd, and 3 more in 4th. Boulder Creek pounded out 10 hits while being assisted by 4 Bulldog errors. Bryan Word took over on the hill finishing off the Bulldogs in the 6th and 7th.
Cole Smith took the loss for Goldwater. The Bulldogs finish the regular season 3-7 in conference and 6-12 overall.
Boulder Creek will see more action later this week in the Class 5A D2 state tournament. The site and opponent are still to be determined.
 


Prescott defeated Independence 14-1.  Prescott had 18 hits, Cam Schiller went 3 for 3 with a grandslam and a triple, Richard Schleicher 3 for 3, Zak Haley 2-3, David Fry 3 innings 1 run, Freshman Michael Bensen 2 strong innings. Next up for Prescott Saguaro on Thursday @ home.


T.J. Bennett drove in five runs with a double an triple and Derek Mendoza pitched five innings to earn the win as Red Mountain defeated Mountain View 12-3 at HoHoKam Park.
Mendoza added three hits as Red Mountain rallied from a 3-0 deficit after three innings.


The Sandra Day O'Connor Eagles won the Western Sky region by defeating Apollo, 3-2. O'Connor remains undefeated with a region record of 9-0 with one conference game to go, and 20-5-1 overall. Maverick Lasker was the winning pitcher for the Eagles going 5 strong innings, giving up 1 hit and 8 strike outs. Lasker was relieved by Matt Broderick and Tim Devito. With the tying run on base in the bottom of the 7th with 2 outs, Devito ended the game with a strike out to seal the victory for O'Connor. Apollo surrendered all 3 runs in the first inning and battled all game long. Matt Witwer's single put the Eagles ahead to stay in the first inning. Mario Carrasco went the distance for Apollo surrendering 5 hits. Jackie Samora went 2-3 for the Apollo Hawks in the loss.


Brophy defeated Desert Mountain, 5-4, in the regular season finale as both teams used the game to set up their pitching for the state tournament. The Wolves and Broncos both used four pitchers in the contest.
Brophy took a 3-0 lead in the first inning with four hits, the key blow being a two-run single by Jake Williams. The Wolves' Skylar Helmbeck homered in the fourth to close the gap to 3-1 before Brophy added a run in the home half on a sacrifice fly to regain a three run lead. Colton Farnsworth's two run blast in the top of the fifth was answered by a Riccio Torrez homer in the bottom half of the inning before Farnsworth finished the scoring with his second bomb of the game in the seventh.
Drew Maggi (2-4) and Torrez (2-3, BB) led Brophy hitters while Farnsworth (2-3, 2 HR, 3 RBI) and Helmbeck (1-3, HR) led the Wolves. Lars Liguori (double), Lance Harper and Robert Neill also had hits for Desert Mountain.


Deer Valley dropped Valley Vista 12-1. Kory Willis got the win on the hill. Darian Ramage was 3-3


Carter Crawfords 6th inning 2 out, pinch hit 2 run double proved to be the difference as Sunnyslope beat Scottsdale Saguaro 6-4. Dylan Hanna got the win going the distance for Slope scattering 8 hits and giving up 3 earned. Slope's Ryan Jones contributed early with a two run double and made two plays deep from short making throws to first from his knees to quash two Saguaro rallies. Slope is keeping their playoff hopes alive in 4A I


Horizon defeated Pinnacle by a score of 7 to 5 in a closely contested well played game. Pinnacle jumped out to a 3 run lead in the first thanks to 4 hits including a 2 run HR by Jon Crist. Horizon responded with a run in the 1st on a double from Joey Bristyan and a single by Stephen DeFreitas, and 2 in the second. The game went back and forth again with Pinnacle taking the lead 5 to 4 in the 6th scoring on a lead off triple by Colton Sadler and a double by Jake Peavyhouse. Horizon responded with 3 runs in the bottom of the 6th on 4 hits including a 2 out single by winning pitcher Jordan Mitchell. Both teams banged out 12 hits a piece with the Pioneers led by Jake Peavyhouse (3 for 3) and 2 hits each by T. Krause, Jonathan Crist, and C. Sadler. Jordan Mitchell was 3 for 4 for the Huskies and Joey Bristyan and Thomas Valenza each had 2 hits. Mitchell was the winning pitcher for the Huskies with Paul Peavyhouse taking the loss for Pinnacle.
 


Corona got a pair of 3 run scuds from Trevor Allen and Tyler Giannonatti and cruised to a 12-3 win over Desert Vista. Kevin Collinge worked the first 3 innings for the win. Mike Felton was 4-4 with a pair of RBIs and Allen was 3-5. Jacob Brugman homered for the Thunder.

Despite their bus arriving almost an hour late, Basha arrived ready to battle and topped Mountain Pointe 9-4 on their home field. The Bears jumped out early, scoring twice in the first off Pointe starter Ryan Klem.  David Miczek and Michael Benjamin went back to back in the 3rd, bringing  Jordan Madison on in relief. Jared McLaughlin had a 2 run blast in the 7th.  Junior Ryan Downs (now 8-2) got the win, taking a shut out into the 6th inning before Nick Lira's grand slam put the Pride on the board. Top hitters for the Bears were Josh Melendez, 3-4, Erik Voak, 2-4 with a double, David Miczek, 2-4 with a 2 run HR & 4 RBI's, and Jared McClaughlin 1-3 with a 2 run HR & 2 RBI's..  Senior Frankie Valles got the save.


Hamilton edged Chandler 2-1 in Fiesta region play. Jake Saylor homered and doubled for the Huskies. Sammy Vandenheuval went the distance for the win. Michael Handel tossed a com plete game for Chandler and took the hard luck loss, allowing only 4 hits. Chandler

Three Desert Mountain pitchers combined on a four hitter as the Wolves won a hard fought battle over St. Mary's, 3-2. Tommy Rowland (1 1/3 IP, 0 R, 1 H, K) picked up the win in relief of Cam Teich (4 IP, 2R, 3H, 5K). Brian Foster pitched the final 1 2/3 innings, allowing no hits and striking out two to earn the save.

St. Mary's took a 1-0 lead in the first on a walk, stolen base, ground out and wild pitch. The Wolves came back to go ahead with 2 runs in the fifth on a Kyle Smith sacrifice fly and Lance Harper (2-4) RBI single. The Knights tied the score 2-2 in the bottom of the inning on an Antonio Miller RBI single before the Wolves' Brad Douthit (2-4, R) scored the go-ahead run in the sixth on a wild pitch.

Taylor Lindsey (3-3, IBB) led Desert Mountain's hitters. Miller pitched out of several jams for St. Mary's, scattering 9 hits in 5 2/3 innings while stranding ten Desert Mountain runners. Gilbert Espindola was 2-2 for the Knights.


In a repeat of the first meeting between these two teams, Kingman defeated Valley Vista 14 to 13 in 9 innings. Valley Vista starting pitcher Chris Welch was replaced on the hill after 5 strong innings, allowing only 3 hits, no earned runs and a VV 7 to 5 lead. Welch also went 3 for 5 at the dish with two home runs and 4 rbi's for VV. That score stood until the bottom of the 7th when Kingman extended the game by scoring 2 runs and putting it into extra innings. In the top of the 9th V.V. erupted for 6 runs and a 13 to 7 lead only to have Kingman battle back in the bottom of the 9th and score 7 runs of their own and earn the victory 14 to 13


Despite being 0-3 on the day prior, Chris Russell came through when it mattered most and Boulder Creek walked off with a 5-4 win over Deer Valley.
An outstanding Northwest Region showdown provided a potential sneak preview of what's to come in next week's state tournament.
Ryan Imming battled Skyhawks' southpaw Kevin Burbank for nearly 7 innings.
Johnny Maldonado took the first pitch of the game to left-center for a triple and after a sacrifice groundout D.V.H.S lead 1-0.
Working with a run advantage Burbank went to work. Ben Saunder's(2-3) laced a 2 out double and then scored thanks to an rbi fielder's choice from Imming.
Deer Valley scored on an errant wild pitch to the backstop in the 3rd. In the 4th the Skyhawks got a rbi single from Daniel Schnieder. With a 3-1 advantage though and 2 away in the home half of the 4th Sam Saunder's provided the play of the day. Saunder's took the pitch to the wall scoring the tying two runs. Imming and Burbank worked the 5th and 6th to near perfection.
In the top of the 7th a leadoff walk to Dustin Grande put Imming in a jam. Kyle Herrington flew out to deep centerfield which brought the runner in from 3rd to make it 4-3.
Being behind in the late innings hasn't phased the Jaguars several times this season. Monday was one of the same. Leadoff hits from Brandon Hendrix(2 hits on the day) and Sam Saunders(2 hit game) forced Burbank to pitch from the stretch. After getting an out Deer Valley coach opted to make a pitching change, bringing in Chris Kasner. Cash Watson ripped a single over Maldonado's head to tie the game. Mikey Ciombor was intentially walked and Chris Russell stroked a line shot past the second baseman for the 5-4 come-from-behind- victory.
#2 Deer Valley will play Valley Vista to end the regular season. # 10 Boulder Creek will host Barry Goldwater. Goldwater's head coach Jim Scappaticci will be coaching his last game.

Friday, in a game with potentially large impact on the Central Region race, Mountain Pointe beat host Corona 6-5. Corona held a 4-1 lead going into the 6th inning when Pointe tallied 4 runs to take the lead for good. Matt Gibson had a two run single and Jake Waldren had a one run double in this key rally. CJ Cron added a solo home run in the vistor's half of the 7th to make the lead 6-4 before Corona took their last at bats. The Aztecs plated a run in the 7th but Pointe pitcher, Jordan Madison, was able to wiggle out of a tight situation with the aid of an Aztec runner missing 3rd base on his way to the plate.
Senior Jordan Madison was the winning pitcher for the Pride logging a complete game 10 hitter. Tyler Gianatti took the loss for CDS. On offense, Mountain Pointe was lead by Jake Waldren who went 3 for 4 with a HR, double, and 2RBI's. CJ Cron was 2 for 4 with a home run and double. For the host Aztecs, Kirby Pellant was 3 for 4 with a double and Alex Murietta whacked a home run.


North Canyon clinched the Metro Region championship by defeating Cesar Chavez 5 to 1. Senior Mark Lawson was 2 for 3 with a BB. Freshman Dominic Portocarrero had some key RBI's late in the game to help the Rattlers seal the deal. Junior Miles Moeller earning the win on the mound for the Rattlers. First time in school history has the Rattlers ever won their region.


Matt Shannon allowed one hit in five shutout innings as Mountain View topped Westwood, 12-0. Coltin White, Marcus Rynkiewicz, Brian Williams, Daniel Forrest and Tim Willsey all had two hits each as the Toros pounded out 18 hits. Willseyhad three RBI and Shannon a pair for Mountain View.
 


A wonderful Senior Day ceremony at Mountain Ridge was topped off by the most exciting game yet! Ridge came out running, putting four runs on the board in the first. Brophy came right back posting four in the top of the second and adding another in the third to take the lead 5-4. In the bottom of the fourth Ridge, plated four more with a two-run blast by Brad Williams (his first homerun of the year), putting Ridge up 8-5. In the top of the sixth Riccio Torrez dropped a 3 run bomb top tie the score.In the bottom of the 8th, Ryan Cobb cranked a 2 run walk off blast, (his first  of the year and the 11th Ridge player to go deep) to win the game. Leading hitters:  Kyle Stiner (2B,sac fly, 1RBI), Ryan Skube (3 singles), Ryan Freberg (2B, 2RBI), Cameron Paschke (1B,1RBI), Cody Gray (1RBI), Aaron Hines (1B, sac), Brad Williams (HR,2RBI), Mikey Reynolds (1B,2B), Ryan Cobb(1B,HR,2RBI). Pitchers for Ridge: Markel threw three, Gardner came in for two, Buelow threw two and Paschke finished the game for one inning, posting the win. Final score: Ridge 10, Brophy 8.


Junior Ryan Retz hit a 3-run homer in the first and pitched a complete game as CDO defeated Catalina Foothills 5-1 in Sonoran Region play Friday evening. Retz yielded only 3 hits and struck out 12 to earn the victory. Kavon Bahrazmadeh suffered the loss for Foothills yielding 6 hits and striking out 11. Junior Doug Steele was 2-3 with a double and the other two RBI's for CDO. Junior Brandon Ashdown had 2 hits and Andy Hunter1 hit and an RBI for Foothills.

Corey Cole threw a complete game four hitter, and Ryan Cobb broke a 1-1 tie with a 2-run triple in the top of the seventh inning as Mountain Ridge beat Desert Mountain, 4-1. Cole and the Wolves' Brad Douthit were locked in a pitchers' duel that included excellent defensive plays by Wolves second baseman Tyler Pretzlaff and left fielder Skylar Helmbeck, who turned great catches into double plays to keep the Lions in check. Cole made good pitches when it counted, getting out of a bases loaded, one out jam in the second, ending the inning on one of his nine strikeouts. Mountain Ridge scored first on a Kyle Stiner (2-3, BB, 2 RBI) RBI single in the 3rd inning after a Mike Reynolds double to open the inning. The Wolves tied the score in the 4th on a Kyle Smith (2-3, RBI) ground out that scored Helmbeck (2-3, R), who doubled to get the inning started. The game remained tied until Mountain Ridge rallied for 3 runs in the 7th inning on RBI hits by Cobb and Stiner. Ryan Freberg (3-4) had an excellent day at the plate for the Lions. Aaron Hines also had a a pair of hits.


O'Connor jumped out to an early 7-0 lead thanks to homers by Brain Carr and Nick Carrillo and some shaky Sunnyslope defense as the  Eagles prevailed 12-4.  Brian Carr got the win in giving up 3 earned through five, giving up only 3 hits. Carr was relieved by Aaron Copfler in the 5th and Maverick Lasker in the 6th and 7th. Lasker struck out 4 batters in 2 innings of work.  Carrillo was the hitting star blasting 2 home runs for the Eagles, his 5th and 6th of the year. Travis Lane continued his hot hitting going 2-3 for O'Connor in the victory. Sunnyslope only managed 3 hits in the game. Maverick Lasker shut the door on Slope pitching scoreless 6th and seventh innings. Viking's starter Ryan Jones got the loss, going a strong five innings, striking out 5 and giving up only 3 earned, he also had 2 of slopes 4 hits.


Central's Jay Mireles threw a complete game shutout in earning the 8-0 victory over South Mountain. Jay had 8 strikeouts, walked 2 and
scattered 3 hits. Zach Pavlisick went 2-3, 2 RBI's and a double. Andrew Mitchell went 2-3, 2 RBI's and a double.


Millennium was tested again Tuesday on the diamond, but for the 12th consecutive time out, they prevailed.
Zach Livingston gave up 2 singles and 2 runs while striking out 5 over 5 1/3 innings of work for the victory. On the offensive side of the game the Tiger's were lead by Shane Batie.(3-4, 1 rbi).
Josh Brooks kept the Matadors in the contest scattering 3 hits but allowing 3 earned runs. Miles Christopher stroked a 2 run double to give the host a 3rd inning lead of 2-1. That 1 run advantage held until the fifth. Tyler Sterling connected on Brooks pitch and tied the game with a single. Sterling finished 1-2 with 2 runs batted in.
Jake Wolf and Javier Smith combined to work 2 2/3 allowing the lone run in the 7th before Smith got the save.
The Tigers are at Agua Fria Tuesday April 22. Shadow Mountain will host Cactus Shadows.


Ryan Carpenter tossed a 3 hitter and moved to 7-1 on the year as Cactus dropped Copper Canyon.


On Tuesday, McClintock beat Chaparral 4-3. Danny Colombe and Matt Summers pitched for chap, Mark Anderson threw a complete game for McClintock giving up 5 hits and hit a home run off Coulombe's curveball in the 4th. Danny threw the first 4 but came out with side pain in the 5th and Matt Summers came in. McClintock was down 3-2 in the top of the 7th but rallied with back to back hits by Chaz Contreras and Mark Anderson with one out in the 7th.  McClintock tied the game on an Eric Urry base hit to right with 2 outs plating Contrares. 2 pitches later Anderson scored the go ahead run on a Tyler Messer base hit to center diving in head first. Chap battled back in the 7th but ended the game with a fly out to center with runners on 1st and 3rd.
 

Yesterday, Chase Brewer tossed a 4 hit shutout to give Chaparral a 3-0 revenge win. David Roney was 2-3 with a homer to lead off the game.


Scottsdale Saguaro beat the Falcons of Cactus Shadows 11-6 in a re-match of Tuesday's extra-inning affair. The Sabercats again came back from a deficit, this time storming back from being down 6-3 to score 8 consecutive runs and chase starter Jackson Goulder. Aaron Borenstein, Tyler Lambe, Chris Vazquez, Chase Watts, Ryan Comford and Matt Anderson all had key hits during the Cat's rally. Dylan Beam got the win in relief of Matt Anderson with Wes Smith finishing up for the Saguaro, now 8-2 in Desert Region play with 2 to play.

Cory Bernard, Kyle Peterson and Jake Saylor each homered leading Hamilton to an 11-2 victory over Mountain View. Saylor and Peterson had three RBIs each and Bernard and Ryan Casillas had a pair of RBIs each. Coltin White homered for Mountain View and Nic Nedrow had two hits and an RBI for the Toros.


Desert Ridge beat Horizon 9-4 Wednesday night. Jake Barrett threw a solid 5 innings giving up 3 runs while sophomore Grant Kempton pitched the final two innings striking out 4 to preserve the win. Ethan Chavez had 2 doubles and had an impressive steal of home. For the Jaguars Alex Villar was 2-4, Steven Bier 2-4 with a triple, and Travis Flores hit a 2 run homer.
 


Junior Chris Wert continued his stellar pitching, throwing a complete game 3 hit shutout of Dobson for the Mesa Jackrabbits at Hohokam Park. He then turned around at the dish and went 3 for 3 with 2 doubles and 2 RBIs. Jessie Feinenger pitched in with a 2 for 4 night and an RBI. Ryne Hemstreet also went 2 for 4 with a 2 doubles.


Freshman Steve Casey led Pinnacle to victory hitting a 2-run bomb as well as being the pitcher of record as the Pioneers downed the Padres from Marcos de Niza 9-6. John Jones homered in his 4th straight game hitting a 3-run shot in the 1st. Paul Peevyhouse earned the save throwing 2 perfect innings.


Deer Valley clincvhed the Northwest region title with a 12-1 win over Willow Canyon. Kevin Burbank got the win with relief help from Chris Crasner. Kyle Herrington cranked a 3 run homer in the first inning. Josh Dahl plated 3 runs with a bases clearing double in the third.


Boulder Creek carried over their hot bats from the Kingman road-trip scoring 9 runs in the decisive 3rd inning, in route to a 13-3 home victory against Valley Vista.
Sam Saunder's hit his first varsity homerun. His older brother Ben went 1-3 with a 2 run double as part of the third inning highlights. Mikey Ciombor went 2-2 and raised his average to .525. Ryan Imming had 3 hits on the afternoon and drove in 5 for the host.
Bryan Word pitched 4 innings for the win while scattering 4 hits. The 3 earned runs came in the Monsoon 4th. Chris Welsh for Valley Vista gets the loss.
Boulder Creek travels to Surprise to face them again Friday.


In a clash of 4A-1 Desert Sky rivals Scottsdale Saguaro rallied from a 6-0 deficit to beat the host Cactus Shadow Falcons 10-7 in 8 innings on Tuesday. Matt Anderson and Wes Smith both homered for the Sabercats as did Chris Sabanosh for the Falcons. Chris Salazar picked up the win in relief for Saguaro and Matt Anderson picked up the save by striking out the side after loading the bases in the 7th. The two teams play again at Saguaro on Thursday at 4:00 PM.


Camelback defeated Central 9-8 last night in Metro Region II play. Camelback was led offensively by Mitch Martinez' 3 run homer in the 2nd inning. Lou McAnany picked up another win throwing a complete game and striking out 7 batters. The Bobcats were led by Jay Mireles (3-4, HR,3 RBIs, double, 3 runs scored) and JJ Steele (2-4, triple, and 3 runs scored).


Basha dropped Corona for the second straight day 16-15 in a  6 inning contest called due to darkness. The Bears pounded out 21 hits on the day includng homers by Michael Benjamin, Mitch Zakula and Erick Voak. Justin Sutherland was 4-5 for the Bears. Zakula was 3-5 with a double, homer and 4RBIs. Trevor Plautz and  Ryan Downs both had 3 hit games. Evan Ritchie had a pair of doubles and 4 steaks for the Aztecs.

Desert Vista scored 12 runs in the top of the seventh inning to erase an eight-run deficit and beat Mountain Pointe, 14-11, in a Central Region game Wednesday at Mountain Pointe. What started looking like it would be a slugfest with the wind blowing out and each team scoring two runs in the first inning, turned into a pitcher's dual between Desert Vista starter Jon Serfilippi and Mountain Pointe's Ryan Klem in the middle innings. Cole Pembroke hit a two-run homer for the Thunder in the first inning. Klem kept Desert Vista in check allowing two hits through the next five innings while getting six strikeouts. Mountain Pointe's Brayden Falk went 4-for-4 with three doubles, drove in two runs and scored three times. The Pride appeared to take control of the game with a six-run sixth inning to gave them a 10-2 lead with four hits, including a three-run homer by Derek McCawley, but the Thunder put together eight hits including consecutive doubles in the top of the seventh. Once the Thunder got on a roll, helped by three walks and a Aaron Mees hit to right that took a rubber ball bounce to the fence, they were a runaway train. The third and final game of the series will be next Wednesday afternoon at Desert Vista. The Pride won the opener at Desert Vista Tuesday when they came from behind with an 8-5 victory.


Mesquite beat Highland 9 to 8. Mesquites winning pitcher in relief of Chris Jensen was Zack Davies. Davies also got the game winning hit with bases loaded in the bottom of the 7th. Leading hitter for Mesquite was Ty Forney (3-4). Mesquite left fielder Jason Gonzales made
a diving catch in the top of the seventh that saved two runs from scoring for Highland. Losing pitcher for Highland was Trey Maldonado. Highland leading hitter was Colton Zebe who was (3-4) with a home run.

Mountain Pointe took the first game in the battle of the Ahwatukee rivals, topping Desert Vista 8 to 5 Tuesday at Desert Vista. Pointe took an early lead in the top of the first with a three run blast from Nick Lira. Desert Vista soon took over by scoring 5 runs in the first and second innings led by a Cole Pembroke long ball. The Thunder maintained their lead for a few innings until the Pride erupted with homerun shots from Derek McCawley, Ryan Klem, Jake Waldren and a second stroke of the game from Nick Lira. Jake Dzuibczynski got the win by pitching 5 flawless innings with no runs scored. CJ Cron picked up the save in the seventh facing three batters and
recording two strike outs. Cole Pembroke received the loss for the Thunder. Leading hitters for the Thunder were Aaron Mees going 3 for 4, Cole Pembroke going 2 for 4 and Matt Wehrli going 2 for 3. Leading hitters for the Pride were Nick Lira and Derek McCawley going 2 for 3 and Jake Waldren going 2 for 4. The Pride and the Thunder face off again Wednesday at Mountain Pointe.


Coltin White and Daniel Forrest collected four hits apiece to lead an 18-hit attack in Mountain View's 12-7 win over Mesa. Matt Shannon, Nick Nedrow, Tim Willsey and Blake Shumway added two hits each. Forrest had three RBIs to lead the Toros in that department. White earned the win with six innings of work. Chris Wert hit a grand slam for Mesa.
 


The Arcadia Titans beat Seton Catholic 26 - 8 yesterday in East Sky Region play. The game was close for the first two innings then the
Titans exploded for ten runs in the third inning led by a Hank Yates three run bomb. However, the Sentinals did not roll over, they put a
six spot up in the bottom of the fifth making the score 17 - 8 and extended the game. In the top of the sixth the Titans again got the
bats going scoring 9 runs highlighted by two mammoth homeruns by Joey Demichele and a three run blast by Adam Joffe. On the day all the Titans hit the ball, Chris Murphy 5-5 with 5 rbi's, Joey Demichele 3-5 with 5 rbi's and two HR's (8), Hank Yates 4-5 with 5 rbi's and a HR, Zac Stubblefield 4-5 with 5 rbi's and a HR, Adam Joffe 3-5 with 4 rbi's and a HR. Mike Fox did a great job picking up the win and Lee Williamson was outstanding out of the pen to close the game out for the Titans.
 


Brophy's offense scored in every inning except one and shortstop Riccio Torrez made several key defensive plays as the Broncos held off Desert Mountain 12-7. Brophy took a 7-1 lead in the fourth on the strength of a 2-run Brandon Bayardi homer in the first, a 2-run single by Trent Stevenson in the 2nd and another solo shot by Bayardi in the 4th. But the Wolves battled back to tie the score 7-7 on a 2-run homer in the 4th by Lance Harper and a mammoth 3-run bomb by Skylar Helmbeck in the 5th, Helmbeck's second home run of the game. Brophy rallied back in the 6th aided by two walks by Wolves' pitching and a key error, then put the game away in the 7th with 3 hits and 2 more walks to score 3 runs.
Brophy's Bayardi was 3-3 including 2 homers, 3 RBI and 3 runs scored. Drew Maggi, Stevenson, Cullen Mahoney, Brian McIlhenny and Thomas Haggerty each had two hits for the Broncos. Dante Sadeghpour picked up the win in relief, allowing 1 run on 3 hits in 1-2/3 innings.
Desert Mountain was led by Harper (4th inning HR), Helmbeck (3-4, 2 HR's, 4 RBI), Brad Douthit (2-4, 2 doubles), and Taylor Lindsey (2-3). Cam Boysen, Kyle Smith and Colton Farnsworth also had hits for the Wolves, who fell into a first place tie at 5-1 with Brophy in the Desert Valley region.


On Friday, Central defeated South Mtn. 9-5 in Metro Region II play. The Bobcats were led by Omar Alanis(jr.), 2-2, run scored, triple, 3 stolen bases, and Drew Mitchel(sr.)l, 2-3, 2RBI's, 2 runs scored and a stolen base. Ramon Grijalva,frosh, earned his 2nd victory of the season.


Horizon beat Marcos 11 - 7 on Tuesday night at Horizon. The Huskies pounded 4 home runs in the first 2 innings (Valenza, C. Everett, T.
Joseph, J. Mitchell) to take a 10 - 1 lead. Joey Danner got the win and pitched 5 1/3 giving up 6 runs on 5 hits, but actually took a 1 hitter into the 6th. The 5 run out burst in the 6th for the Padres was fueled by a grand slam by Alex Moreno. Jaramillo took the loss for the Padres.


Ryan Makis pitched a complete game yielding 1 unearned run allowing only 3 hits while striking out 7 as Pinnacle defeated Skyline 8-1
John Jones (3-3) hit his team leading 8th Home Run. Bryan Karraker(2-4) hit a 3-run HR destroying a ball off the batters eye in centerfield. Freshman Steve Casey(3-3) hit his 1st Varsity HR. Freshman Tyler Krause went deep absolutely crushing a ball to left.


Higley traveled to Peoria and dropped the Panthers 17-1 on Tuesday, The Knights broke out for 11 runs in the 3rd inning and they never looked back. Higley was led by Jeff Aguilar who was 4-4 with 2 HR's and 6 RBI's and Joseph Robinson who was 3-3 with a HR, a double, and 3 RBI's. Matt Ross, Roger Molieri, and Kyle Gundlach also added 2 hits each for the Knights. Connor Crowther threw 4 solid innings for the Knights, giving up one unearned run and striking out 8. Kyle Davis also threw an inning in relief for the Knights.


Travis Jones hit HR #14 down on the border vs Nogales.The ball left the yard without a passport, it was a monster of a shot. A well played game. Sabino 4 Nogales 3.


Brian Carr's bases loaded sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 7th inning broke a 7-7 tie to give Sandra Day O'Connor a come from behind 8-7 victory over Shadow Mt. Tim Devito got the win in relief for the Eagles. Devito also hit his 1st home run of the season, during the Eagles 4 run 7th inning comeback. Travis Lane continued to hit the cover off the ball going 2-3 with a triple and double. Eddie Coogle came off the Eagle bench to go 2-2 with 2 big RBI's. Coogle tripled and singled for O'Connor. Miles Christopher homered for Shadow Mt., going 3-4 at the plate. Jerry Story was the starter for Shadow Mt. relieved by Josh Brooks. Brooks got the loss in relief.


Deer Valley dropped Goldwater 11-1. Kory Willis tossed all 5 innings for the Skyhawks.
Dustyn Grande was 3 for 3 with two doubles and Kyle Harrington 2 for 3 with a triple and a double.


Hamilton played long ball with Mesquite hitting 3 home runs and a total of 12 hits. Matt Helm was (3-4) with 2 home runs and hit the top of the fence just missing his 3rd of the game. Jake Saylor also hit one for Hamilton. Sammy Vandenheuvel picked up the
win on the mound, with Sam Ebersole pitching the 7 inning. Casey Rana got the loss for Mesquite, Zack Davies come in and pitched in the 5th and Matt Westerguard worked the 7th for the Wildcats. Mesquite leading hitter Zack Davies was (2-4) on the day.

The Basha Bears put away Coronal del Sol 12-2 in a run rule in the 6th inning. Ryan Downs tossed a complete game 2 hitter, allowing 2 earned runs, 4 strike outs, and 2 BB.  This brings Downs' record to 7-2 on the season with 73 K's and 10 BB in 54 innings of work. . Top hitters for Basha were David Miczek , 3-4 with a double and 2 RBI's, ERic Voak 1-1 with a solo HR, and Downs 2-2 with 4 RBI's and a 2B.
The Bears will play Corona again tomorrow at Corona.

Mountain Ridge dropped the hammer on St. Mary's in a run-rule 12-2 win. Parker Markel looked sharp on the mound through three and was credited with the win. Corey Cole pitched the fourth and Austin Buelow pitched the fifth inning . The RBI's were plentiful with Aaron Hines(3B) and Andy Silcox(2B)each pitching in with two. With 1 RBI a piece were Ryan Skube(1B), Cameron Paschke(1B,1B), Ryan Freberg(1B,2B), Cody Gray(1B), Brad Williams(1B) and Markel(1B,2B). In the bottom of the fifth, Ryan Gardner knocked in the final RBI to bring Ridge's lead to ten, ending the game.

Royce Bollinger's bottom of the 7th one out 2 run homerun off the outfield scoreboard tied the game 2-2 vs. the visiting O'Connor Eagles. Chaparral went on to win the game in the 8th inning on single by Jordan Weymouth, scoring Ryan Scott for the winning run. Maverick Lasker and Chase Brewer were locked up in a scoreless pitching duel through 4 inning. Brewer was relieved by Matt Summers, Danny Coulombe, and Jordin Hollie. Hollie got the win. For the Eagles, Lasker was relieved by Matt Broderick, Nick Carrillo, and Bryce Keffeler. Keffeler suffered the loss for the Eagles. In the 5th O'Connor jumped ahead 2-0 scoring runs on a wild pitch and ground out. That's the way the game was until Bollinger's bomb in the 7th. Cody Yount went 2-3 for Chaparral, and Travis Lane 2-3 for O'Connor. The game was filled with good pitching and defense, O'Connor had 4 hits and Chaparral 7 hits.


In a makeup game from earlier this season, Mountain Pointe beat Casa Grande 11-1 in 6 innings. Through 3 and a half innings Mountain Pointe led 2 to 1. In the 4th the Pride erupted for 8 runs and put the game out of reach. Sophomore Jake Waldren pitched the first 4 innings for the Pride and recorded the victory. Junior Steven Skarsten threw 2 scoreless innings to close things out. John Elliot took the loss for Casa Grande.
At the plate Pride Senior Derek McCawley went 3 for 4 with a double and 2 RBI. Senior teammate Brayden Falk also added 3 hits (3 for 3) and a pair of RBI to Pointe's totals. Tyler Gibson led the Casa Grande attack going 2 for 2.


On Saturday at Chase Field, matt helm went the distance, earnign the win as Hamilton dropped Chandler 8-3. Justin Rosales went deep for the Huskies.

Austin Patience allowed three hits and fanned five in four solid innings of work to help Mountain View knock off Dobson, 11-1, at HoHoKam Park.
Russ Tuemmler, Coltin White and Tim Willsey collected two hits apiece with White and Tuemmler each belting a triple.


In a battle of East Valley Region rivals Mesa beat Red Mtn 4 to 3. Sophomore Jordan Adair threw a complete game, scattering 7 hits and striking out 8, he also had 1 of the 4 hits the Jackrabbits had in the game. Senior Trey Paulsen came up huge for Mesa in the bottom of the 3rd with Mesa trailing 3 to 0. With bases loaded and 2 outs Paulsen deposited a grand slam over the left center fence to give Mesa all the runs they would need. Adair then held the Lions to 4 straight scoreless innings, getting timely strikouts and ground balls. Paulsen also started the 5-4-3 double play that ended the game in the top of the 7th with a runners at first and third. With the win Mesa moves to 9-4 in PP games. Derek Mendoza threw a very good game allowing only 4 hits. Dean Espy had a big day at the plate for the Lions, leading off the game with a solo home run, double and infield single.


Brad Douthit threw a two hitter and struck out 12 batters as Desert Mountain beat Brophy, 6-1, in a battle of undefeated teams in the Desert Valley region. Douthit was in command the entire game, allowing no hits until Brandon Bayardi's home run broke up his no-hitter with two outs in the sixth. The Wolves took a 2-0 lead in the first on a sacrifice fly by Lars Liguori (1-2, HP, RBI) and a Lance Harper (2-4, R, RBI) single. Desert Mountain scored three more runs in the fourth to move their advantage to 5-0 on a key two-run single by Kyle Smith and a run scoring single by Douthit (2-3, SF, R, 2 RBI). The Wolves added their final run in the sixth on a sacrifice fly by Douthit that scored Cam Boysen (2-3, R), who had started the inning with a double. Taylor Lindsey (1-3, R) also contributed to the Wolves offense.
Jimmy Westling (4 IP, 5 R, 7 H) pitched well but picked up the loss for the Broncos.


Jonathan Cuellar pitched a complete game 3 hitter, striking out 13 as North beat Carl Hayden 8-3 . Tomas Gonzales had 3 hits and 2 rbi's. Cuellar and Roberto Alejo had 2 hits and 2 rbi's each. North is 3-1 in conference, Carl Hayden is 3-2.


Senior pitcher Josh Mall fought thru a severe hand injury to pitch 5 strong innings yielding only 1 run and 4 hits as CDO defeated Marana 9-5 in a Sonoran Region contest Friday night. Ryan Retz (2-4) and Ray Nettling (3-3) both homered and doubled to lead the CDO attack. Senior Dylan Cota-Robles continued to DH as he tries to come back from a severe ankle sprain. Cota-Robles was 3-3 with what would have been sure doubles had he been able to run.


Travis Jones homered twice to take the state lead with 13 as Sabino beat Sahuaro 9-4.


On Thursday Mountain Pointe beat Mesquite 15-5. Mesquite got the early lead in the top of the first scoring 2 runs with a double by Ty Forney and a single by Austin. MP responded with two-2 RBI home run blasts by CJ Cron and Nick Lira. The Pride started their high scoring rally in the third scoring 4 runs. Jake Dzuibczynski got the win for the Pride. Ryan Klem went 4 for 4, CJ Cron 3 for 5, Nick Lira 2 for 3 and Tyler Studt 2 for 3 for the Pride. Ty Forney went 2 for 4 and Austin Carr went 2 for 4 for Mesquite.

On Friday MP beat Basha 4 to 3. Ryan Klem looked good on the mound pitching 6 innings to get the win. He allowed 6 hits and had 7 strike outs. CJ Cron returned to the mound to earn the save in the 7th facing 4 batters. Brayden Falk was 2 for 3 with 3 RBI's for the Pride.


Marco De Niza outlasted Pinnacle 15-12 despite home runs by Bryan Karraker and John Jones. Rudy Jaramillo was 3-4 with a pair of doubles for Marcos.

Horizon scored 6 runs in the 5th inning to over turn an early 5 to 1 Desert Ridge lead and held on for a 12-5 victory. Horizon has 13 hits led by Joey Bristyan (3 for 4) and Thomas Valenza (3 for 4) as well as 2 hits a piece for Steve DeFreitas and Payden Yarmer. Ryan Schwenn got the win in 5 innings of relief of starter Jordan Mitchell. Schwenn allowed 2 runs on 4 hits in 5 innings of work.
The Jaguars were led by 2 hits by Jake Barrett.


Desert Vista won the completion of their game with Corona in the 12th inning 8-7.

Afterwards, Tyler Giannonatti homered and worked 6 strong innings on the mound as the Azrecs dropped the Thunder 5-4. Trevor Allen homered and was 3-3 for CDS.

Junior Ryan Retz again led CDO with 2 Home Runs(4 RBIs) and a 5-inning 15-3 victory on the mound, as CDO traveled to Cholla in a Sonoran Region game late Thursday. Ray Nettling doubled and homered (5RBIs) for the Dorados and Sophomore Eric Gutierrez also homered for CDO. The Dorados are attempting to bounce back after missing 5 key players with injuries, the past several games.


Desert Mountain slammed 17 hits including 6 home runs as the Wolves defeated St. Mary's in 5 innings, 20-10. Cam Boysen delivered the final blow with a 3-run, walk-off homer in the bottom of the fifth inning as the Wolves scored six runs in each of the final two innings to overcome a 10-8 deficit. Desert Mountain seemed to be cruising after scoring 3 runs in the 2nd, including a 2-run blast by Robert Neill, and 5 runs in the 3rd on bombs by Colton Farnsworth, Lars Liguori, and Taylor Lindsey to pull out to an 8-1 lead. But the Knights rallied in the 4th for 9 runs on 6 hits, including a bases clearing double by Antonio Miller in an inning extended by two Desert Mountain errors. However the Wolves responded with Skylar Helmbeck's homer as part of a six run fourth inning and Boysen's shot to end a six run fifth and give Tommy Rowland and Desert Mountain the win. Rowland pitched brilliantly in 1-1/3 innings to shut down the St. Mary's rally, recording 3 strikeouts while allowing no hits.

Boysen (4-4, HR, 5 RBI's), Lindsey (3-3, HR, BB, 4 RBI's, 4 R), Farnsworth (2-4, HR, 3B, RBI, 2 R), Liguori (2-2, HR, 2 BB, RBI, 3 R), Helmbeck (2-3, HR, HP, 2 RBI's, 3R), Matt Galterio (2-3, BB, RBI, 3 R), Neill (1-3, HR, BB, 2 RBI, R) and Lance Harper (1-2, 2 BB, 3 R) provided the Wolves' offense. Ryan Greer (2-3, HR, 2 RBI, 2 R) opened the game with a home run for St. Mary's. Antonio Miller (2-3, 2 doubles, 4 RBI, 2 R) also had two of the Knights' seven total hits.


Bobby Egeberg went 4 for 4 with 3 doubles and a homer ( his 6th), to lead Estrella Foothills to an 11-0 win over Fountain Hills.
Sophomore Steven Egeberg also went 4 for 4 w/2 doubles. Senior Casey Basalo went the distance for EFHS.


Cactus Shadows defeated McClintock on Thursday by a score of 9-5. Jackson Goulder moved his record to 5 and 2 and he went 2 for 3 at the plate with a double and 3 RBI's. Chris Manship went 2 for 2 with 2 walks and he hit his 12th homerun of the season by hitting a grandslam in the 6th inning. Cactus Shadows is now 17 and 6 on the season.


Tucson Amphi remained undefeated in region play with a 3-2 victory over Catalinah High. Senior lefty  worked 5 innings and allowed ony 2 hits for the win.


O'Connor defeated Independence in a 5 inning mercy rule game 10-0. Brian Carr was the starter for O'Connor giving up 1 hit, striking out 6 batters in 4 inning of work for the win. He was relieved by Matt Bridgewater who pitched the final inning for the Eagles striking out 2 of 3 batters, yielding one hit. Travis Lane went 3-3 for the Eagles with his team high 6th home run of the season. Lane also had a double and a triple. Matt Broderick went 2-3 for the Eagles in the win.


Phoenix Moon Valley struck early and often in route to a 19-1 Black Canyon region victory at Washington High.
The Rockets were looking to solidify their playoff fate, since they entered the game at #11 in 4A Division 2, Thursday's can only help their cause.
2 first inning 2 run doubles made it 4-0 courtesy of Jared Claime and Clay Taylor. Moon Valley' added 4 in the second, 2 in the third, 3 in the 4th, and 4 in the 5th. The rockets tallied 20 hits on the afternoon.
Claime went the distance for the visitors scattering 6 hits, one of which was a solo home-run to Rams starting pitcher Mike Tapia.
Moon Valley moves to 9-12 overall and 4-2 in region. Next up for them is a road matchup at rival Greenway. Washington slips to 9-13 overall and 3-3 in region. The rams will travel over to Glendale High on Tuesday.


Matt Schmit, Travis Eggert and T.J. Johnson combined to throw a one hit shutout for Queen Creek, in their 7-0 win over Dysart. Eddie Malone, Alonzo Martin (2B, 3B) and Schmit each had a pair of knocks for the Bulldogs. Pierce Arnette also contributed by stealing 4 bases for Queen Creek.


4A Division 1 #2 ranked Apollo Hawks fought off a late comeback from the Thunderbird Chiefs to win 7-5.
Apollo's Jackie Samora solo shot in the first inning gave the Hawks some early momentum and they built on it. Leading 2-0 in the bottom of the 5th Apollo shook Thunderbird pitcher for 4 more. Edwardo Acosta doubled home a run followed by another rbi double off Anthony Martinez bat.
Leading 6-0 going into the 6th frame Gabriel Gutierrez seemed to be in command. The Chiefs, who are on the outside looking in at the playoffs,wouldnt go quietly into the night however. P.J Garcia rbi single got the visitors on the board late.
Gutierrez finished with 6 1/3 innings pitched and 3 earned runs. After a Chiefs 7th inning rally Mario Carrasco picked up the save striking out the last batter. Apollo Hawks defeat the Thunderbird Chiefs 7-5 in Western Sky Region play


Agua Fria used the long ball and 4 different pitchers to defeat Sunnyslope 11-9. Four home runs by four different players, 2 three run shots and 2 two run shots did all the damage. Sunnyslope's Dylan Hanna had 3 hits and 3 RBIs, Ryan Jones knocked in 2 and scored two for the losers.

Deer Valley rallied back from an early deficit to drop Boulder Creek 13-9 in a slugfest. Chris Russell went deep twice for BC, and Ben Saunders launched a scud as well. Josh Dahl hit a towering homer for Deer Valley.

The short story is Gilbert beat Mesquite 19-17. No, that's not a football score. It was a great day for batting averages and a lousy day for ERAs...
This was a game between crosstown rivals that no one present will forget anytime soon. Mesquite was cruising to what looked like a 10-0 run rule victory with starter Casey Rana perfect for four innings. Then the bottom of the fifth happened. It started with a walk and ended fifteen batters and eleven runs later with Gilbert taking the lead 11-10 capped off by a three-run homer by Michael Guido. Seven runs were scored with two outs.
Mesquite continued their hitting spree and added four more in the sixth. Gilbert replied with three in their half from homers by Braden Hamel and Kenny Hatcher (his second in the game), making it 14-14 heading into the seventh.
Mesquite scored two in the 7th including Nick Quiroz's second homer of the game . Gilbert replied with two unearned runs in their half, taking the game to extra innings.
Mesquite got an unearned run in the top of the eighth (everybody must've been tired from running the bases). With two outs and nobody on in the bottom of the eighth, a walk was followed by a single, which was followed by a three run walkoff by Cody Repenning.
The offensive numbers were ridiculous:
Mesquite -- 24 hits. Austin Carr 4-5, Steven Harrington 5-6, Beau Delis 3-6, Nick Quiroz 2-5 with two HRs, Jason Gonzalez 3-4.
Gilbert -- 15 hits (but none until the fifth inning). DJ Peterson 2-5, Braden Hamel 2-5 with a HR, Kenny Hatcher 3-5 with two HRs, Tyler Kamtz 2-4, Michael Guido 2-5 with a HR, Cody Repenning 3-5 with a HR.
When the dust settled, it was Tyler Kamtz taking the win, and Zach Davies the loss.


In a night game Desert Mountain recorded a 10-0, six inning win over St. Mary's at Phoenix College. Lars Liguori pitched a strong 5 innings allowing only three singles as the Wolves played errorless defense in support. Liguori also went 1-2 with a Grand Slam in the six run second inning. Other contributing on the offense were Cam Boysen (3 for 4 with 2 RBI's), Taylor Lindsey (2-3 with an RBI) and Brad Douthit (2 for 4 with 2 runs scored). Ross Prejean pitched a scoreless sixth inning to close out the game.
Anthony Miller pitched all six innings for the Knights, recording 11 strikeouts.


Matt Shannon won his seventh consecutive start pitching Mountain View past Red Mountain, 7-5 at HoHoKam Park.
Shannon improved to 7-0, gave up nine hits, but only three over the final five innings. Shane Urban and Tim Willsey drove in three runs apiece as Red Mountain's Mark Hawkenson suffered his first loss of the season. Hawkenson fanned four in four innings.


Chris Wert hit a double and drove in 4 runs, and tossed a four-hit complete game for Mesa in a 9-1 win over rival Westwood in a 5A-1 East Valley Region game at Hohokam Park in Mesa. Quinton Perry added a 2 RBI triple for the Jackrabbits (11-12, 2-1). Carlos Arzaga went 2 for 3 with a double for the Warriors (10-10, 1-4).


Queen Creek made it four in a row with an 11-1 region win over Tempe. Alonzo Martin was outstanding on the bump, going 5 innings getting tagged for only 1 earned run. For the second straight game, Pierce Arnette was a home run short of the cycle. Martin helped his case by doubling twice and knocking 2 runs in.


Highland took down Dobson 14-7. A five run 4th and an 8 run 5th proved to be too much for the Mustangs. Trey M<aldopnado homer and had 2 hits. Keith Milton was 4-4, Colton Zebe 3-4, and Devyn Rivera and Max Rossiter chipped in 2 hits apiece. Zack Kubek had 2 knocks for Dobson. Jeremy Blare tossed 3 scoreless innings in relief for the win.

Ryan Downs scattered 5 hits in a complete game effort as Basha dropped Mountain Pointe 7-3. Mitch Zakula was 3-4 with a pair of RBIs.


Desert Ridge defeated Marcos De Niza 5-3. With a pitching match up of Jake Barrett for D.R. vs Rudy Jarimillo for Marcos. Desert Ridge lead 5-0 going into the 6th when Marcos was able to touch Barrett for 3 runs, with the big blow coming on a 2 run double by Rudy. However in the 7th Barrett was able to strike out Michael Kenneth with the tying runs on second and third to end the game. For Desert Ridge they were lead by Jake Barrett 2-3 with a 2B and 2 RBI's. Jerry Kleman was 2-3 with a 2B and Steven Bier was 1-3 with a 2B and an RBI. Marcos was lead by Rudy Jarimillo who was 3-3 with 2 2b's and 2 RBI's.


Horizon played long ball in laying the wood to Skyline 13-3. Tommy Joseph cranked a pair of homers, and Colby Everett, Thomas Valenza and Steven Defreitas all went deep for the Huskies.


James Pazos worked 6 strong innings as Highland dropped Hamilton 4-3. Colton Zebe earned the save and had a pair of hits. Devyn Rivera homered for Highland. Kyle Peterson went deep for Hamilton.


Chris Jensen tossed a 2 hit shutout as mesquite blanked Chandler 10-0. Austin Carr ahd a double, a triple and 3 RBIs, Ty Forney was 2-3 with a double.


Michael Guido's walk off 2 run shot in the 7th sent Gilbert to a 10-8 win over Pinnacle. Kenny Hatcher also yakked for the Tigers.


Corona and Desert Vista battled to a 7-7 tie when the game was called in the 10th inning due to darkness. It will be resumed prior to Friday's scheduled clash at DV.


Sahuaro escaped with a 7th inning come from behind victory at Cienega 7-5. Sahuaro entered the 7th trailing 5-1 before two singles chased starter Kyle Delassio. Seth Mejias-Breen walked the first batter he faced to load the bases bringing Sr Alex Ferguson to the plate. Alex delivered a bases clearing double off the top of the fence in right center to draw the Cougars within one. Later in the inning two Cienega pitchers issued four walks to plate the go ahead and winning runs. Ferguson led the way at the plate going 3-3 with 4 RBI and also pitched a complete game victory pushing his record to 5-0 on the season.
 



Ryan Hill and Ben Saunder's provided two solo shots to help Boulder Creek earn a gritty 5-4 Northwest Region win at Willow Canyon.

The Wildcats struck in the first inning thanks to 3 errors. Both runs were unearned. Boulder Creek's Hill cut the lead in half in the top of the 2nd. Jaguars attached more to the scoreboard in the top of the 3rd courtesy of a 2 run triple from Chris Russell. Hill drove him in with a sacrifice fly to centerfield. Hill finished 1-2 with 2 rbi on the evening. Saunder's 5th inning laser concluded the visitor's scoring at 5 runs. At the time his 4th home run of the year gave BCHS a comfortable 5-2 lead.

Willow Canyon wouldn't go quietly though. In the bottom half of the 7th. Daniel Torres hit 2 run blast to left cutting it to 5-4. Jags coach Joe Macdonald went to his flame thrower, Mikey Ciombor. Ciombor, a Yavapai signee, proceeded to strike out the first and third batter he faced, mixed in was a ground ball to second.

Jaguar starter Ryan Imming threw 6 solid innings scattering 3 hits while striking out 4 to earn the victory. WCHS starter Chris Allard took the loss.

Boulder Creek who entered the game #16 in 5A D2 power points is now 5-7 overall (power points games) and 2-1 in region. The Jaguars face Deer Valley at 3:45 Wednesday April 9th before the rematch at home with Willow Canyon on Friday.
 


Coltin White tossed a four-hitter and struck out six in going the distance to lead Mountain View to a 6-1 victory over Westwood. White added two hits as did teammate Russ Tuemmler who had two RBIs. Nic Nedrow and Tim Willsey had two hits apiece for the Toros.


Central defeated Metro Region leading Carl Hayden 7-6 last night. Jay Mireles(jr.) earned the victory by striking 4 and walking 2. Cal
Baptist bound JJ Steele (sr.) was 2 for 4 with 2 RBI's and a double. Zach Pavlisick (jr.) was 3 for 4 with 2 RBI's and a double.

Last Friday, Centennial dropped Tolleson 11-7 in Desert West region play. Michael Pomeroy continued his mastery of the mound, allowing only 2 earned runs in a complete game effort.
No less than 5 people had multiple hit games.  The 'Yotes were down early, allowing 3 unearned runs over the first two innings...but everything changed in an 8-run 4th inning.  Senior Captain Jeff Kawasaki knocked perhaps the biggest hit of his, and the 'Yotes season, a clutch, two-out, bases loaded double in the top of the 7th that pushed the lead back to 4 runs after Tolleson had scratched and clawed it's way to 4 runs in the bottom of the 6th. 


Jessie Feininger went 4-for-5 with two home runs and drove in four runs as Mesa dominated Phoenix South Mountain 22-3. Feininger hit a solo shot in the third and added a two-run home run in the fifth. He scored five times. Matt Delgado and Quinton Perry each went 1-for-1 with two RBIs for the visiting Jackrabbits.


O'Connor defeated Prescott 10-8,. Zach Macphee had 2 key hits to plate 3 runs. Richard Schleicher pitched 4 strong innings, gave up 5 runs 2 earned. Cam Schiller was 4 for 4 with his 5th HR. Winning pitcher was Nick Carrillo.


Kavon Bahramzadeh tossed a 5-inning, 3 hit shutout striking out 8 as Catalina Foothills mercy ruled visiting CDO 18-0 in Sonoran Region play. Cameron Blazevich and Andy Hunter both homered and Breck Ashdown (3), Sam Hallum (2) and Lucas Morales (1) all doubled for Foothills in the victory.


Cactus Shadows defeated McClintock on Monday afternoon by a score of 9-0. Ismael Castro picked up the win and is now 5 and 1. Brothers Jake and Jackson Goulder both hit homeruns and now have 6 on the season. Ismael Castro also hit a homerun for Cactus Shadows. The Falcons are now 16 and 6 on the season.


Danny Coloumbe pitched 5 innings giving up 1 hit, an infield single as Chaparral defeated Shadow Mtn 13-3. Coulombe had 14 K's but struggled a little in the 4th as he had 3 walks in the inning and 4 overall.

Lefty Sophomore Blake Freeman got his 4th win of the year scattering 3 hits and striking out 8 through four innings of work as Sunnyslope beat Independence 11-3. Ryan Jones started the scoring with a bases loaded triple in the first deep off the center field fence and also scored three runs. Slope's Carter Crawford also had a nice day going 3 for 3 with 3 RBIs


 Arcadia continued their hot streak in the region and got a little revenge with a 14-4 victory over visiting Higley. Down 4-3 in the 4th inning the Titans erupted for 11 runs in the bottom half to force an early ending. Zach Stubblefield had his second 2 home run game
with 7 RBI's to lead the offense. Sean Jarvis also went yard for the Titans. Mike Fox went all 5 innings on the hill for the win.


Millenium overcame an early 5-0 deficit and rallied to defeat Coronado 15-13.

Sahuaro's Jake Cole hit a solo homerun and pitched a complete game in Sahuaro's 7-3 win Friday night at Nogales. Cole pushed his record to 4-2. Sr Brandon McCollum led the Cougar attack with 3 doubles.
 


On Friday, Desert Mountain broke open a close game with 5 runs in the top of the 7th inning to defeat Mountain Ridge 11-4. The Wolves bounced back with 8 runs in the final 3 frames after the Lions' Kevin Lawler hit a pinch hit, 3-run homer in the bottom of the 4th to give Mountain Ridge a 4-3 lead.
Colton Farnsworth (3-4, BB, 4 RBI) led a 12-hit Desert Mountain attack but got plenty of help from Brad Douthit (key two-out RBI double in the 6th), Cam Boysen
(1-2, BB, SF, 2 RBI, 3 R), Lars Liguori (2-3, 2 BB, R, RBI), Kyle Smith (2-4, R, RBI) and Taylor Lindsey (2-4, 2 R, RBI). Riley Welch (4 IP, 4 R, 5 H) got the win on the mound for Desert Mountain and Brian Foster pitched 3 shutout innings for the save, giving up just 3 hits.

Aaron Hines (3-3, R, RBI triple), Kyle Stiner (2-4), Cameron Paschke (triple) and Lawler provided most of the offense to keep Mountain Ridge in the game until the Wolves broke it open in the 7th inning.
 


Queen Creek (10-13, 3-3) picked up their third straight game by pounding out 14 hits with an 8-2 win over Mohave. Matt Schmit was fantastic on the hill going 5 strong innings surrendering only 1 earned run on 6 hits with 6 Ks and 2 BBs. 6 Bulldogs had at least a pair of hits with Alonzo Martin registering 4 RBI and Pierce Arnette a bomb short of the cycle.

Notre Dame got a huge win on Friday night, strengthening their stronghold on the 4AII field with an impressive 8-3 win over Chaparral. Kyle Conroy worked 5  strong innings for the Saints, but fell behind early in the top of the first after Royce Bolinger launched a massive 2 run shot over the batters eye in center. Conroy settled in and finished with 7 Ks on the night. Chap starter Jordan Holle was his equal through 3 innings, and led 2-1 going into the 4th when the Saints began to figure things out. NDP scored twice in the 4th to take the lead and hung a 5 spot in the fifth off the Chap bullpen to put things away. For NDP, Tony Piazza and Angelo Wright both had 2 hits and a pair of RBIs. Bolinger, Trey Ford and Danny Coulombe all had 2 hit games for Chap.

Michael Voight pitched a complete game for the Tigers in a 4-3 victory over the Huskies, allowing seven hits and striking out six. Jake Corpron homered for 2 RBI, with Braden Hamel and DJ Peterson both driving in a run. A couple of key defensive plays in the seventh sealed the win, with CF Tyler Kamtz making a diving catch of a sinking line drive and 1B Thor Nelson smothering a ground ball in the hole to end the game. Michael's brother Eric Voight also threw out two runners during the game.
Matt Helm went the distance for the Huskies, allowing five hits while striking out seven.


Jordan Adair hit a huge 2 run walk off home run in the bottom of the 7th inning to give Mesa High an 8-6 victory over visiting Dobson. Adair also pitched 5 2/3 solid innings giving up 3 ER and striking out 4. Fellow sophomore Dallin Parker continued his hot hitting going 2 for 2 with a double, BB and 2 RBIs. Senior Dillon Downs tied the game in the 4th inning with a 2 run shot of his own. Downs and Adair each have 3 HRs on the season and the much improved Jackrabbits have raised their PP record to 6-4. Leading the way for the Mustangs was Kyle Rapchak who was 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs.


CDO got a slow start but then erupted for 13 hits including doubles by 5 different players and Ryan Retz hit his 5th homer to lead CDO to a

 12-3 victory over Palo Verde. CDO senior pitcher Josh Mall got the victory for the Dorados.

Pinnacle remained unbeaten in the Pima Region with a 10-7 victory over Horizon.Pinnacle’s starter and winning pitcher Justin Walker struggled in the 1st inning with a HBP, two Walks and a Double by Jordan Mitchell and a base-hit by Kyle Weber. Horizon took a 4-0 lead in the top of the 1st. The Pioneers came right back scoring 4 of their own with a lead-off walk by Bryan Karraker, Double by Ash McCoy, Triple from Tyler Krause and a home-run by John Jones. Pinnacle scored a half dozen in the 2nd with 4 base hits by Marcus Jensen, Jake Peevyhouse, Karraker and McCoy. Tyler Krause walked and the rally was capped off by Jonathon Crist’s Grand Slam. The Pinnacle offense slowed after SS Ash McCoy suffered a broken nose on a bad hop ground ball off the bat of Steven Defrietas in the top of the 3rd. Dillon Everett and Ryan Schwenn homered for Horizon.

Pinnacle moves to 3-0 in region while Horizon falls to 1-1.

 


On Thursday, Junior Ryan Retz tripled and homered w/6 RBI’s to lead CDO to an  11-4 victory over visiting Pueblo. Senior Garret Gannon picked up the win for CDO in the  4A Sonoran Region opener for both teams. PJ Ortega had 2 doubles to lead Pueblo.

The bats came alive for Sabino in a 14 to 7 victory over Nogales. The lineup got on base setting the table for Travis Jones having a big night going 5 for 5 with a double, single and 3 home runs totaling 9 rbi's. Extra base hits adding to the scoring came from Cory Perreault, Jake Hanson and Jimmy Curtis.


The O'Connor Eagles defeated Thunderbird High School 12-4. Brian Carr was the starting pitcher picking up his 4th win of the year. Carr struck out 7 batters, giving up 1 earned run in 3 innings of work. Carr was relieved by Sophomore Bryce Keffeler who had his best performance of the year going 3 scoreless innings striking out 4. Maverick Lasker was back on the hill with many pro scouts in attendance striking out the side in the 7th. Travis Lane hit his team high 5th homerun of the season. Brian Carr went 2-4 at the plate for O'Connor. Tim Devito and Bryant Burnett went 1-2 in the win.


Ryan Jones went 4-5 with 3 doubles, 4 RBIs and 3 runs scored as Sunnyslope held on to beat Prescott 15-13. Dylan Hanna got his 3rd win. Slope jumped out to a 14-3 lead after two, but the Badgers battled back to make it 15-13 in the 6th before Jones moved from shortstop to the mound getting his 4th save of the year in pitching a scoreless bottom of the seventh to secure the win for a young Sunnyslope team. Cam Schiller was 4-5 with his 4th homer of the year for Prescott.


Mesquite beat Carl Hayden 19-7 with help from hrs by Chris Jensen and Casey Rana. Austin Carr got the win with help from Rocky High and Zack Davies. Ty Forney was (3-5) on the day.

Tucson Sahuaro opened Kino region play with a win over visiting Flowing Wells. Soph Mike Rodriguez went the distance limiting FW to one earned run on four hits. He pushed his record to 3-1. Sr Matt Fierro hit his fourth homerun of the year with a solo blast to center through a strong head wind.
 


Queen Creek won their second straight region game. This one over a scrappy Seton Catholic team, 12-5.  Freshman Kyle Wallace (3-1) battled to pick up the win going 5 1/3 giving up only 2 earned runs along the way. Queen Creek pounded out 7 doubles as a team and 12 hits overall. Leading hitters for the Dogs were Pierce Arnette (2-4, 2 2B, 2 runs), Josh Fultz (2-4, 2 2B, 3 runs), Jackson Wodiuk (2-2), and Matt Schmit (2-4, 2 rbi).
 


Chaparral held on for a 6-4 win over Saguaro in Desert Sky Region play. The Firebirds led 5-0 going into the bottom of the fifth behind Chase Brewer, but the 'cats put up a 3 spot. Matt Summers entered in the 6th to close the deal. Royce Bolinger knocked in 3 runs for Chap. Matt Anderson was 3-3  and Devyn Thaut 2-3 with a double, triple and 3 RBIs for Saguaro.

Sunrise Mtn started off the Desert West conference 2-0 this week after defeating Tolleson 5-4 in a somewhat sloppy defensive game for Sunrise. Jaff Decker pitched a complete game striking out 12 and allowing only 1 earned run. Decker was also 2 for 2 with his 8th Hr of the season, a 3 run blast to left in the 3rd inning. The Mustangs held a 4-2 lead until some defensive miscues gave Tolleson 2 unearned runs. Vince Barreda and Woody Nisbet each had multiple hit games.
On Wednesday the Mustangs bats got back on track with a 22 run 5 inning game v. Westview. Woody Nisbet pitch 4 hitless innings as Spencer Brooksby closed it out in the 5th. But the big highlight of the game came with Jaff Decker once again. Decker was 3 for 3 with 3 Home runs (11): A tape measure blast to center in the 2nd inning, an oppo jack to left on a curve ball in the 3rd inning and an absolute laser to right in the 4th inning. Woody Nisbet, Gilbert Galindo, and AJ Robinson all added Homeruns to the offensive terror. The Mustangs pounded out 19 hits in 5 innings.


Colton Zebe singled in the game winning run in the bottom of the ninth to send Highland to a 9-8 win over Fiesta Region foe Gilbert. Zebe also got the win on the mound, tossing 5 innings of shutout ball in relief of James Pazos. It was yet another comeback win for the 'hawks, who suffered a case of leather allergy in committing 6 errors, and falling behind early 5-0 on a grand slam in the 1st off the bat of Gilbert sophomore Tyler Kamtz. Jaime Garrido was 3-4 for Highand. Kenny Hatcher was 3-4 for Gilbert, Mike Voight and Kamtz each had 2 hits for the Tigers.


Dobson got a solid pitching performance from Jim MacWilliam as the Mustangs defeated Westwood 8-4. A four run fifth broke upa trie game for the 'stangs. Chris Hall was 2-3 with 3 RBIs . Kyle Rapchak had a pair of doubles for Dobson. Doug Donaldson had a 2 run homer for Westwood.

Junior Travis Eggert carried Queen Creek to a 4-3 region win over region foe, Tempe High School. Eggert threw a complete game, giving up only 1 earned run. Travis struck out 5 and walked 1. Queen Creek moves to 8-13 overall and 2-3 in the region. Tempe falls to 7-14 and 1-4 in the East Sky.


Brad Douthit threw a 6-inning complete game three hitter as Desert Mountain used the long ball and two untimely Mountain Ridge errors to defeat the Lions, 11-1. Douthit struck out eight, allowed no earned runs and scored after doubling in the first inning on a two out Mountain Ridge dropped fly ball. The Wolves moved out to a 4-1 lead in the fourth on a two run Lance Harper home run. They extended their lead to 5-1 in the fifth, then finished the game in the sixth on a walk-off grand slam by Colton Farnsworth following another two out error by Mountain Ridge.
Farnsworth, Harper (2-3, R, 3 RBI), Matt Galterio (2-3, R) and Skylar Helmbeck (1-2, double, 2R, HP) led the Wolves attack in the Desert Valley regional opener for both teams.
 


Hamilton overcame an early 4-0 deficit and dropped Mesquite 7-4 in a Fiesta region matchup. he Huskies played long ball, with Ryan Casillas dropping his third bomb in 2 days and Cory Bernard adding a blast. Sammy Vandenheuval got the win, moving to 3-0 on the year. Casey Rana suffered his first loss for Mesquite. Chris Jensen and Zach Davies were both 2-3 for Mesquite. Bernard and Vandenheuval each had a pair of hits for Hamilton.

Danny Coulombe tossed a 5 inning one hit shutout and was 3-3 with a pair of homers as Chaparral spanked rival Saguaro 12-0. Devyn Thaut had the lone Saguaro hit, but was thrown out at second by a strong throw by Tommy White in left. Coulombe walked one hitter, who he promptly picked off, and struck out nine, facing the minimum 15 batters. He launched a mammoth 3 run shot that landed across the street on the church sidewalk and later cranked a grand slam for a 7 RBI day.


Ryan Carpenter tossed his second no hitter of the season as Cactus edged Prescott 2-0. Carpenter struck out 13 and walked one hitter in the 7th inning.


Ryan Jones had a 2 run homer as Sabino dropped Canyon Del Oro 8-7.


Mike Felton's 3 run blast and Tyler Giannonatti's follow up solo shot in the bottom of the 7th erased a 6-2 Mountain Pointe and led the way to a 7-6 8 inning win for Corona Del Sol. Giannonatti picked up the win in relief of Kevin Collinge. Felton was 3-4 with 3 RBIs for the Aztecs. Alex Murrietta was also 3-4 for Corona. Nick Lira had 3 hits for Pointe.


Hamilton rallied to top Gilbert 11-9 with sophomore Ryan Casillas hammering a 3 run blast and a grand slam for the Huskies.


Red Mountain jumped out to an early 5-0 first inning lead and held on to defeat Deer Valley 6-3. Mark Hawkenson tossed a complete game for the win.


Horizon beat Boulder Creek 2 to 1 in a pitchers duel.  Jordan Mitchell's bases loaded single in the bottom of the sixth plated both Horizon runs. Conner Hulse was the winning pitcher for the Huskies in relief, pitching the last 2 innings. Ben Saunders knocked in Mikey Ciombor with a base hit in the top of the 6th for BC.  Bryan Word suffered the loss for BC despite throwing 6 strong innings and allowing up only 3 hits. Sophomore Joey Danner was impressive again for the Huskies, throwing 5+ innings and scattering 5 hits.


Highland hung up a seven spot in the 4th inning as the Hawks dropped Chandler 10-8 in a Fiesta region matchuip. Trey Maldonado got the win on the mound with Max Rossiter, Colton Zebe, Keith Milton, Blair Whatcott and Ty West all having 2 hit games. Jordan Oliva had a 3 run blast for Chandler.


Mesa pounded out 13 hits to beat the Falcons from Carl Hayden 14 to 8. Senior Scott Valdez picked up the win for the Jackrabbits, striking out 5. At the plate Mesa had several contributors, Junior Chris Wert was 2 for 2, a double and 2 RBIs. Senior Marco Erran was 3 for 3 with 3 runs and Senior Trey Paulsen added 3 RBIs.


Notre Dame defeated Greenway 2-0. The game featured a great pitchers duel between the top two teams in the Black Canyon League. The Saints Jordan Luvisi improved his record to 4-0 striking out 11 and allowing only 3 hits to Greenway in 6.67 innings of work. Luvisi
extended his streak to 18 innings without allowing an earned run. Brandon Hirneise gained his 3rd save of the season recording the final out of the game. Sean Lafferty and Drew Ozanne led the Saints offense with 2 hits a piece.
Brandon Coleman went the distance in this tough luck loss for Greenway scattering 8 hits while striking out 8.


Cactus Shadows defeated O'Connor 8-3. Cactus Shadows jumped out early scoring 6 runs in the first 3 innings. Jackson Goulder was the starting pitcher and winner for Cactus Shadows. Homeruns by Chris Manship, Jake Goulder, and Jackson Goulder paced Cactus Shadows to the win. Matt Broderick was the losing pitcher from O'Connor. Nick Carrillo had two hits for the Eagles.


Pinnacle handed Jake Barrett and Desert Ridge their first Region loss by a 3-2 score. Freshman Steve Casey threw 5 scoreless innings leaving the game with a 2-0 lead. Pinnacle took the 2-0 lead in the Fourth with a lead-off Double by Ash McCoy, Jonathon Crist reached base on a throwing error followed by two base-hits by John Jones and Danny Troup.
Desert Ridge cut the lead to 2-1 in the sixth with a lead-off Walk to Barrett and base-hits by Taylor Kaczmarek and Branden Raidy.
The Jaguars tied the game in the 7th scoring an unearned run off of winning pitcher Matt McCallister.
Pinnacle won the game in the bottom of the 7th for the second game in a row. Freshman Alex Real reached base with a single and scored, driven in by Marcus Jensen's game winning Double. Pinnacle moves to 2-0 and Desert Ridge drops to 0-1 in the tough
Pima region. Pinnacle hosts Horizon Friday, while Skyline visits Desert Ridge.


Mtn View of Mesa improved it's record to 17-3 on the year. Coltin White picked up the win pitching a complete game striking out 7 while walking 0. He was great on the hill. Chris Jensen got the loss pitching 6 strong innings until Rocky High came into work the seventh inning Jensen ked 10 in 6 IP. High did not give up a hit or a run in the seventh.
This was High's first time back sense he broke his right arm 3 weeks ago. The left-hander pitched well. Jensen was 2-3 at the plate for Mesquite while, Shane Urban was 2-3 for Mtn.View and White added a pair of hits.


Basha High beat Desert Vista 3-2. Ryan Downs tossed a complete game with 8 strike outs and held Desert Vista to 3 hits. Cole Pembroke was asolid for DV,  holding the Bears to only 6 hits, 3 ER and 3 strike outs.  Mitch Zakula was2-3 with 2 RBI's for Basha. Ryan Box went deep for DV.


Sunnyslope defeated Thunderbird 10-3. Soph Blake Freeman got the win with 4 strong innings and went 3-4 with 3 RBI. Ryan Jones went 2-3 with 2 doubles, 3 runs scored and 2 RBI, Ben Hall was 2-4 with 2 RBI and 2 runs scored for Slope.


Garrett Lee delievered a 2 out walk-off single to lift Barry Goldwater over visiting Mesa Dobson 3-2.
Cole Smith went the distance and allowed 2 runs. Smith improves to 3-3 on the season.
Trevor Gatewood's RBI double in the bottom of the 4th got the scoring going. Working with a lead Smith got into a jam in the 5th surrenduring a 2 rbi double. In the bottom of the 5th Goldwater struck courtesy of another 2 out rocket, this, off the bat from Brandon Mueller.

Goldwater continues Northwest Region play Wednesday at home against district foe Boulder Creek before facing rival Deer Valley on Friday.

Brophy took a 7-6 10 inning win over Horizon on Monday night. Beau Maggi's  knocked in Jake Williams with the winning run. Brophy had led 6-3 going into the top of the 7th when Payden Yarmer launched a 3 run blast to send things into overtime. Trent Stevenson got a no decision despite throwing 5 strong innings. Brandon Bayardi got credit for the win and was 2-5 at the plate. Drew Maggi was 3-5 for Brophy. Yarmer was 3-5 with 3 RBIs and Dillon Everett chipped in with a pair of hits for the Huskies.


Yuma Kofa came to town and handed Chander a 6-2 defeat ina  non- region tilt. Preston Burrell tossed a complete game 4 hitter for Kofa. Catcher Mark Wright had a day, going 4-4 with a solo blast in the first and 3 RBIs. Anthony Ortiz was 2-5 with a pair of steaks for the Kings. The Chandler defense contributed by committing 5 errors.

Last Thursday, CDO's Ryan Retz cranked a game winning 6th inning grand slam to lead the Dorados past Tucson Sahuaro 9-7. Matt Fierro of Sahuaro homered twice in the losing effort.
